Oblivion enjoying epic sales
Bethesda boasts of its next-generation role-playing game's record-breaking sales--1.7 million copies shipped to date.
Last year, one of the most anticipated fourth-quarter releases was The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Besides the fact that it was the sequel to the popular and award-winning Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, it was also the sole role-playing game on the Xbox 360 launch roster--and a fixture for most PC gamers' holiday shopping lists. However, many of those lists were shredded--and Christmas vacation plans dashed--when 2K Games announced that Oblivion would be delayed until the spring.
As the swelling population of Tamriel, the game's fictional realm, shows, the lag in Oblivion's release hasn't dampened enthusiasm for the critically acclaimed game, which is currently the top-rated 360 and PC title on both Metacritic.com and GameRankings.com. Today, its developer, Bethesda Softworks, announced that it has shipped more than 1.7 million copies of Oblivion since its release on March 20. Citing figures from industry trade group NPD Funworld, Bethesda boasted that Oblivion has been the fastest-selling 360 game to date. On the PC side, it accounted for 13 percent of all Windows games sold during its first week of release.

Wow! Now a game that can -IT CAN- save PC RPGs, and hopefully, makes us hopefull. It is time for other companies to learn from Bethesda Softworks and start making quality RPGs for the PC. I just can't wait to get my hands on the expansion...
And one more word: If Fallout 3, NeverWinter Nights 2, HellGate: London and Dragon Age will be half-as good as Oblivion, WE WILL SEE THE RENEISANCE OF PC RPG. I can't wait for that...

The intro of this game with a home theater set up is so sweet. Felt just like a movie. The opening score put a smile on my face and almost gave me chills.

I wouldn't say it's game of the century or game of the year, we still got the rest of the PS3 and 360 games comin out this year. Great game though....

I'm pretty sure Oblivion Will be the game of the year, at least for PC and XBOX 360. If there is any better game, then it is already doom day!
Considering the ratio of problems to content, it is easy to say that this game is flawless. Yes perfect.
Can't wait for the next installment. Now I am dreaming. ;-)

I love the game eventhough its bugs and sometimes dodgy AI. Yet, I would really say this deserves to be the game of the year or at least to get some awards. Well done Bethesda, unlike some other popular companies you deserve the money you earn.

I have never played an elder scrolls game until Oblivion...I am enjoying it greatly!
I think this game will go down in history and will only grow in interest with expansions, mods etc....
I am hooked on Oblivion.

And it DESERVES to sell a million more. Bethesda is one of the few groups of developers who design games so very painstakingly. It deserves warrant and reward.

oblivion shouldn't be a X360 Exclusive.. PC gamers want top-of-the-bill quality gaming too.. btw microsoft sucks.. windows is the most unstable system to date, but it's about the only OS on which you can game.. i guess. Game On!

Note to Bill Gates....you should have bought Bethesda not Lionhead! Oblivion is the greatest game I've ever played - it's truly a masterpiece and should be a 360 exclusive - it is to Xbox 360 what FF is to PS.

I would agree with Soul Knight. Bethesda Softworks and UbiSoft (GRAW) can teach this industry a thing or three about the makings of a fantastic next-generation video game. I'm definately stoked to see this game getting such fantastic sales. For a western RPG not tied to a franchise, this is a humongus accomplishement. Long live Bethesda!

I really didn't care for Morrowind but Oblivion is flat-out killer. Glad it's doing well as everyone should enjoy a game that's as good as Oblivion.

Bethesda and Ubi need have a class with all the other developers in "How to make True next-gen games". EA definately needs to sitting at the VERY front of the classroom....lol

though stuck with playing on a crappy 5900 ultra, which means i get to see none of the fancy graphics (the game is only marginally better looking than morrowind in my comp), oblivion is one thing for sure...highly addicting. Thr redesigned quest system is especially good, with clear cut golas and map markers that make it so so much better than morrowind's. And despite the levelling up strangeness (why does everyone roam around in high level stuff, kostly higher than u, its improbable that a poor guy or bandit has on him daedric stuff...), morrowind' level of challenge is great, and the new battle system, especially with the bow and arrow stuff (thief 3, anyone?) combined with sneak...is a great option!
