Selected by the South West of England Regional Development Agency (SWERDA), Dean & Reddyhoff will construct the new 600 berth Yacht Marina at Osprey Quay, Portland. The new marina will be located adjacent to the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, which will be the venue for hosting the sailing events for the 2012 Olympic Games.
This new marina will be the largest single yacht marina constructed in the UK since Haslar Marina back in 1993. Enhancing the new marina will be several businesses and services geared to providing ancillary amenities to both cruising and racing yachtsmen. These will include a bar and restaurant, fuel berth, travel hoist, chandlery, yacht brokerage and marine engineers, to name but a few.
One of the greatest areas of focus will be to provide first class washroom facilities, something for which Dean & Reddyhoff is renowned.
Opening in Approximately 2008
Commenting on the news, James Beaver, Operations Director for Dean & Reddyhoff, said:-
"We are delighted to have been successful with our tender to construct this new yacht marina and what better venue than Portland in what is to be home for the sailing competitors for the 2012 Olympic Games.
"The work will now start in earnest to ensure we have this great facility open in good time for new berth holders and visitors and later to be available for the world's yachtsmen and women for the first Olympic test weeks in 2010".
Bruce Voss, South West Regional Development Agency Head of Operations for Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole, said:-
"Since the RDA purchased Osprey Quay in 2000 we have been proud to oversee the development of what is a very exciting project. The new marina will bring jobs and a significant number of fresh visitors to the area and provide a welcome boost to the tourism sector. This development will complement the National Sailing Academy and is a further step in building Osprey Quay as a leading south coast development for the marine sector. Once consented, the development will create prestige and vibrancy on the waterfront and provide a long-term economic boost, not just to Portland but to Dorset and the south west."
