Over the last year, thanks to a successful marketing and PR attack, Switchfoot has built a national fan base capable of filling some of the world’s top venues. When the mainstream Christian band came to Chicago for a late October show, they could have packed a house anywhere – but performing at the Metro, a Chicago venue favorite, made for the perfect relationship between venue and band, and band and fans.

Prior to rocking out to their 18-song set, fans could have been treated to a special experience, had they known the band would dine at Tuscany (3700 North Clark). Luckily for a few select area music journalists, the dining experience was just that, as we had the opportunity to talk with the popular musicians thanks to Aware/Columbia Records’ sweet publicist Sandee Gardner.
With the main purpose of the band’s 30-date tour focusing on the promotion of the new album, “Oh! Gravity”, set for a Dec. 26 release date, the five member band’s, led by front man Jon Foreman, supported by brother Tim Foreman (bass and backing vocals), Jerome Fontamillas (guitar, keyboard, and backing vocals), Drew Shirley (guitar) and Chad Butler (drums), prioritized the turning on of new featured songs. Both “Awakening” and “Dirty Second Hands” seemed to satisfy the crowd just fine, as many tried to lip-sync as many words as they could muster the courage to try.
Of course featuring the new album was not the only treat of the night, as Switchfoot also performed radio favorite “Dare You to Move” and “Stars” to satisfy the crowd’s desire for a sing-a-long.
Throughout the entire show, Switchfoot never once let the crowd’s adrenaline subside, as the depth of their quickly growing catalog proved strong enough to make everyone dance and leave everyone wanting more. With the new album on the verge of release, the band’s set list will continue to grow in strength and value giving Switchfoot staying power many bands are envious of. These boys are not only a studio success, but also a live rock out performing group. |
