Following a detailed inspection on Friday March 10th the EK Lean
Grandstand at Jubilee Oval has been given the all clear.

The Engineers gave a verbal report to the League Executive informing them that the Change rooms, Umpires Rooms and Store Room can all be used, as can the Time Keepers Box and Media Box in the top section of the structure.

The back 5-6 rows of seats in the Grandstand have been passed as fit to use; the League was informed though that the first 3-4 rows of seats do require some maintenance work, as does the Visitors Change room.

A full report from the Engineers will be forwarded to the Football League within 10 day’s; the report will outline a number of recommendations.

After facing a season of uncertainty Chairman of the Broken Hill Football League (BHFL) David Sedunary said his executive is relieved that everything is back on track,

"It was not looking good for the League last week but this report does ensure that the season will commence on time and that we can start planning for what we hope is a tremendous year of local Football,” he added the League relies heavily on the Jubilee Oval as their main venue Mr Sedunary said “ The majority of our income which is required to maintain the competition is derived from Jubilee Oval and if the Grandstand was condemned then our future would have been under direct threat."

While the League has been thrown a lifeline Mr Sedunary said the newly formed working party will be encouraged to continue their task in sourcing funding in an effort to have the facilities at Jubilee Oval improved.

"One of our aims as the custodian of the Oval is to have the playing surface along with spectator and players facilities at an appropriate level, this will mean spending a significant amount of money, we hope the working party can drive this project for us." He said.

For the past few years the BHFL has been striving to attract an AFL pre-season match to the city, Mr Sedunary said much work has to be done before this can become a reality,

"The Jubilee Oval was inspected last year by the NSW AFL and we are aware of some of the areas we have to improve in order to stage such a game and I hope the working party can address some of these issues,"

he said.

The Lightning Cup will be held on Saturday April 08th with the first minor round game on Saturday April 22nd.
