AUDIO: Laura Ingraham Tells Listeners To Jam Voter Protection Hotline

ingraham.jpg As FireDogLake has been reporting, right-wing radio host Laura Ingraham today urged her listeners to obstruct efforts to protect voting rights by jamming a free voter protection hotline.

After playing a recording of DNC Chairman Howard Dean promoting the line to voters, Ingraham suggested her listeners call en masse:

Tell me if you think I’m crazy. This is what I’m thinking. I think we all need to call 1 888 DEM VOTE all at the same time.

CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO INGRAHAM

The DNC has released audio recordings of some of the prank calls to the hotline. Listen to one call HERE.

Digg It!

Full transcript:

DEAN (recorded): We have a hotline — 1 888 DEM VOTE — anybody can call that. If they feel like there are voting irregularities, we’ll send some folks over to the polling place in a matter of minutes.

(Phone ringing) OPERATOR: Leave a message with your question or press pound to be transferred at no extra charge to your local election protection team or the state Democratic Party. (Dialing) Your call cannot be completed at this time. Please try your call again later.

INGRAHAM: Wait a second! So — (Laughter) you call 1 888 DEM VOTE — otherwise ‘Dim Bulb Vote’ or ‘Dumb Vote’ — and all you do is get tranferred to muzak, then they cut you off. This is what I’m thinking. Tell me if you think I’m crazy. This is what I’m thinking. I think we all need to call 1 888 DEM VOTE all at the same time. And, by the way, when you call, when you call the number — and remember, it’s ‘Dem Vote’ not ‘Dumb Vote’ — when you call the number, as we did, and we got transferred, transferred, then we just got hung up upon. You know, we’re supposed to have these election teams within a matter of minutes, they’re supposed to be coming to the polls. Can you imagine what those people look like? Halloween all over again. So if you have trouble with the poll, you’re supposed to call, via 1 888 ‘Dumb Vote,’ and this is what you get.

OPERATOR: Thank you for calling 1 888 DEM VOTE. To continue in English, press 1. Para continuar in Espanol, oprima el dos.

INGRAHAM: Oh, and if you’re Saddam Hussein, no problem. Vote absentee, in Maryland or Ohio.

Why else are they encouraging these voter suppression efforts, voter role purgings, obstruct recounts and investigations into voting machines, robo-calling, and flat out lying to prevent people from voting if they aren’t hardline Republican.

This isn’t what democracy is about and this is why the country is in the state it is currently in. It’s because it is being controlled by people who hate freedom and democracy and look with amusement upon anybody who still believes democracy is what keeps the country on top.

  65. if i may go off-topic for a moment, there is an excellent short piece in the nation this week regarding the germans and their attempt to charge the bush crime family with war-crimes….

they had rumsfeld in their sites:

An earlier case against Rumsfeld was brought two years ago in Germany by CCR on behalf of four Iraqi victims of Abu Ghraib, drawing largely on documents and photos that revealed abuse at the prison. As the case was being considered, a security conference loomed in Munich. Rumsfeld, who could have been served papers or even arrested, refused to attend unless the case was dismissed. It was dismissed February 10; Rumsfeld flew to Germany the next day.

now, however, after bush signed the military commissions act, the germans are bringing the charges anew!

The reason the prosecutor gave for the dismissal was that there was “no reason to believe that the accused would not be prosecuted in the United States”–notwithstanding powerful evidence that the officials who controlled prosecution were themselves part of the conspiracy to commit war crimes. The new complaint will be based on the failure of US authorities to investigate and prosecute high-level officials.

    this is indeed good news…

Just thought you should know that Laura Ingraham is encouraging her listeners to jam the phone lines of the Democratic Party’s voter protection hotline. I seem to remember someone going to jail for similar activities in 2004. If not illegal it is certainly a violation of the public trust and the public air waves. Whether this constitutes voter suppression is up for the courts to decide but this sort of activity should not be tolerated on the radio. I’d appreciate you looking into the matter. Thanks for your time.

  92. The desperation of the criminal enterprise known as the Republican party is showing itself in spades this election day.

Ingraham and her crime accomplices are quite cognizant of the fact that their faux-patriot house of cards is crumbling around them as more and more Americans come to their senses and see the damage the GOP and Bush have done to their Democracy and their country’s image worldwide.

If prosecutors can use the RICO statutes to break up inner-city gangs and put those thugs behind bars (and rightly so) why not use the same laws to go after this obviously organized GOP effort to tamper with the election process which we all know that the sole goal is to disenfranchise and repress opposition voters? A criminal gang is a criminal gang, regardless if their peddling dope in the barrio or working in tandem to undermine other American’s right to exercise their constitutionally guaranteed right to vote unmolested.

It’s clear that the Ingrahams, Hannitys (urging Dems on his television show to not vote) along with the rest of their sleaze-slinging ilk seem to feel that the constitution is nothing more than a wadd of toilet paper they use to wipe their skanky asses with.

Time to put and end to these bastard’s terrorist activities. And time to put a few of them behind bars.

It’s interesting how so many Republican scumbags–and there really isn’t a better term for them–don’t even bat an eye at the thought of voter suppression. It’s just peachy with you, isn’t it MA? GOP bigots can call black people and threaten them with arrest or tell them they’re supposed to vote on a different day or at a different polling place, and you turds think it’s so funny. If you don’t need to do that to win elections, then why do it? I’ll help you with the answer. You can’t win elections playing fair. You have to cheat. You know it and you think it’s okay.

So, when the Democratic party tries to provide a clearinghouse where voters can sort out the facts from the GOP scams, you think it’s your duty as a Republican to try to stifle that. Take a good long look inside, MA. You’re rotten to the core. You people are f*cked up as a football bat. And, you can get all huffy and snotty and catty about it, and you can try to deflect the criticism, but the fact remains–you GOP scum can’t win an election without massive cheating. You know it as well as I do.

    Toodles, dipsh*t.

Instead of open straight debate, he becomes childish, I simply responded in the only manner he understands.

The truth is, there are people on both sides of the fence intimidating others, calling and giving false voting information, in fact misinformation abounds in this election. Where I am, they are using electronic voting machines that have no paper trail, there is no way to verify/validate votes if a machine fails.

Instead of dems, or Repubs setting up hotlines, if there are suspected problems, thats why we have law enforcement, and THEY need to step up to the plate. Not one of the two parties vying for power.

Give us an example of Democrats trying to scam Republican voters. Have you heard of any robocalling in Orange County, CA, telling anglo Republicans to vote on a different day or in a different location?

Where I am, they are using electronic voting machines that have no paper trail, there is no way to verify/validate votes if a machine fails.

It’s the Republicans who have blocked any efforts to get paper trails. It’s in their best interest to have unverifiable results. Talk to your own legislators about it and see how far you get. If the Dems take back the House, you’ll finally start to see some action on it.

The way to get her fired is to make sure enough people, who may or may not listen to her show regularly, make the statement that they WILL listen to her show for one week, and make absolutely sure that they go out of their way to not purchase one single product or service advertised on her show. That way, you only have to keep track of her advertisers, and not listen to her rant.
Once advertisers notice a drop off in purchases of their advertised products, they may want to cancel their ads, and that would lead to one less crazy person on the radio.

  174. Did she suggest a time to do this? Did she repeatedly re-gurgitate it and actually organize it? Did people actually call the line and jam it up at her request? Most conservatives who listened to her probably thought it was a cute idea and then succinctly forgot that she even said it. It takes more than a passing vocalization of a thought to constitute action. The problem is that the libs are sooooo convinced that conservatives are just a bunch of dirty rotten law-breaking scoundrels that they have to twist things around to make it look like things are what they try to make them appear to be.

You mean, the Michael Moore whose F9/11 movie has been proven factually correct again, and again, and again, and again, and again!

You really shouldn’t open yourself up for such a wide swinging left hook. Are you talking about the same Far from right 9/11 in which he totally faked a newspaper headline from a Missouri paper. The paper was an Illinois paper and the headline on the date that the paper showed was nothing like it showed in the movie. The headline that Micheal Moore showed was “Al Gore Really Wins”. That headline actually did appear in the paper that day but it was in the viewers letters section and it was the headline of a viewer’s letter stating her personal opinion. Micheal Moore photo-shopped it and totally faked it. What is the problem with that you say? Well, succinctly, if one part is proven to be a total deception, what credibility is left to anything else regardless of it’s accuracy?

  203. Well, fortunately for you libs, we’ll probably get out of Iraq now and the house will probably begin impeachment proceedings. Unfortunately for the rest of us, the economy that Bush inherited that was in a tail spin and he salvaged by lowering taxes and is now steamrolling. Was anybody on this web site aware of the fact that with a lower tax rate then ever before, the US government took in more money than EVER in history? I realize that most liberals aren’t going to understand the impact of that statement but it means that the economy today as far and beyond what it was during Slick Willy’s best year (1999). So now the first order of business for the Democratic Congress will be to roll back the tax cuts which will mean that a family of four that has to make over 40 thousand dollars a year before they pay thier first dime of taxes will probably now begin to pay it in their mid 20’s or low thirties. But the rhetoric will be that it will only be the top one percent that is being affected. We’ll see. And the end result of that will be that the economy will be effectively choked off.

    Just my opinion.

I realize that and understand it. But you’re so focused on that that the other periipheral issues that the Dems push will kill the economy. So, out of the war good. unemployment and economy in a nose dive because of tax increases bad. They will probably push socialized medicine that will cost lots and lots of money. Who knows what other social programs they have brewing that will cost more and more money.

You’re right about the Dow Jones during Clinton’s years. But look at the chart for the Nasdaq. In March of 2000, when Clinton was still the Pres, it was over 5000. When bush was innaugaurated, it was below 3500. It was down 30 percent before Bush even came into office. So he inherited the mess.

And you can say whatever you want about the states raising taxes. That’s neither here nor there. All I see is tax cuts took affect in 2003. Today, we have more money in the federal coffers than ever before in history with a lower tax rate. And, by the way, throughout Bush’s entire administration, I don’t think I remember seeing unemployment even go above 7 percent, do you?

The government needs to get out of the business of being a nanny. If it did that, it wouldn’t need so much money and it would be able to operate with lower taxes. It’s pretty simple. You pull out the budget. Figure out what you don’t really need. And stop spending the money. That’s what I do with my home budget. Why can’t the government do the same?

    Comment by MikeSF — November 7, 2006 @ 10:53 pm

  211. sambo4, you are an idiot.

6 year to move the Dow from 11K to 12K is.. just under a 1.5% return per year. Bush’s spectacular economy (by the recently touted Dow Jones metric) grew slower than a decent checking account and slower than the cost of living. From Mid-2002 to the 1st 1/3 of 2003 the Dow Jones was dipping down into the 7Ks!! That was well after 9/11. The economy is just RECOVERING despite a terrible run by this president. Also don’t forget….
THE NASDAQ IS LOWER NOW THEN WHEN BUSH TOOK OFFICE! NASDAQ composite today closed at 2375.88, about half it’s high valuation. The low point for the NASDAQ during Bush’s terms was late 2002, well after 9/11 and it was around 1,100. It had to fall to mid-1990’s levels (95ish) to get that low (that was WELL before the tech bubble BTW).
Corporate Profits are way way up which explains why the market is rebounding (pathetically) but the number of Americans below the poverty line is still WAY up for Bush. The number of uninsured Americans is still WAY up for Bush. Unemployment is OK but low-mid jobs have had flat wages and more people are working 2 jobs to get by. ..Don’t forget that people fall off unemployment rolls if they’re unemployeed TOO long also, unemployment numbers are very much guesses.
This economy is NOT doing all that well. Yes, my taxes are down by a sliver but my credit card debt is way up. My costs are up at every turn. I’m no better off.
I don’t know what your smoking. If you’re not in the top 1% of U.S. earners, you must be on something strong.

P.S. Taxes were up because it’s hard to keep America’s economy down in the short term and because corporate profits are WAY up. Too bad our spending is growing an order of magnitude faster than our tax revenues. I bet you are real proud the China now owns a very significant portion of our national Debt.. including the largest share of the 2 TRILLION additional that Bush tacked on. You might as well send your tax payments directly over seas.

Nice try. Too bad it hasn’t come close to 3500 again. So, your argument is.. Poor George inherited a NASDAQ that was only 3500 and he’s brought it all the way up to 2375 in 6 years!!! Financial Genius.

And you can say whatever you want about the states raising taxes. That’s neither here nor there.

Yes, that’s called economics. If you lower Federal Taxes and that underfunds States which forces them to increase taxes.. on dozens of other things, YOUR TOTAL TAXES ARE STILL UP. My household income is just above 100K. My federal taxes went down a bit but everything else skyrocketed. County Property tax.. double. Sales tax.. up. Fees.. up. Road Tolls.. up. Bush’s tax cuts have put LESS money in my pocket and I’ve got 2 Trillion more dollars of Federal debt to not spend it all on.

All I see is tax cuts took affect in 2003. Today, we have more money in the federal coffers than ever before in history with a lower tax rate. And, by the way, throughout Bush’s entire administration, I don’t think I remember seeing unemployment even go above 7 percent, do you?

Wow. 1st, Check Clinton’s unemployment rates.. then compare both presidencies and look at how many people had two jobs, look at the poverty rates, check the bankruptcy rates, check credit card load, check personal savings rates (hint, they’re NEGATIVE NOW), check home forclosures, check the numbers of people (especially children) without health insurance because jobs are getting crappier. Seriously, do it. It’ll smack that smug right off of you.
As for income being up.. yes it finally is up. Too bad we’re spending on Credit to post those numbers. I can borrow $10,000 this year against my credit cards and claim I have $10,000 more income but it’s just debt. Hasn’t it every occurred to you that our debt and deficit is way higher than our tax revenue increase? Our government is living on credit but Visa is now China and Japan and other nations we wouldn’t like to owe down the line.

Bottom line, you’re so terrified of those big spending Democrats. Good thing we don’t have a 330BILLION dollar deficit this year and 2 TRILLION more debt from Bush’s administration. Good thing we haven’t been found guilty of forcing government actuaries to Lie about the our perscription plan, good thing we don’t Loose 9 BILLION dollars in Iraq. Good thing we don’t give no bid contracts to our Vice-President’s buddies while we don’t buy our troops armor. Good thing we don’t pad spending bills with 200 Million dollar bridges to islands with 50 residents. Good thing we don’t divert anti-terror funds from New York to Indiana because Indiana’s representatives are in the majority.
Oh wait. We Have done ALL OF THAT OVER THE LAST 6 YEARS.

God forbid we get some more big spending democrats in with their “Pay as you go” policies and their federal budget deficits.

  217. So, out of the war good. unemployment and economy in a nose dive because of tax increases bad. They will probably push socialized medicine that will cost lots and lots of money. Who knows what other social programs they have brewing that will cost more and more money.

Look at the Clinton years - tax increases good! “Socialized medicine” would be better than multi-billion dollar give-aways to the pharma and insurance companies.

You just seem to wander about in a partisan haze, spouting easily-debunked talking points.

The government needs to get out of the business of being a nanny. If it did that, it wouldn’t need so much money and it would be able to operate with lower taxes.

Now it’s the Nanny State; do you have anything of value to contribute? You neglect to mention that they treat corporations in the same way. Here’s an idea that will probably blow your mind: eliminate the “estate tax” - and eliminate the “cap” on SSI contributions! A fair trade?

  218. Jim C

Didn’t we find Democrats in Wisc, on the 2004 election slashing about
45 vehicle tires so the Republicans couldn’t get out the vote? And you democrats want Laura to go to jail for freedom of speech. You are a bunch of hypocrites and double minded jerks. How many of you would write that those in Wisc. should be put in jail for their dirty deeds of distruction. I heard not one complain or agreement on that matter.

Too bad that republican claim was never backed up. Who _exactly_ was responsible? I’d be the first person in the Jury to vote guilty on a Democrat activist who did that if it really happened but we’ll never know. Too bad the republican party has lied so often or I might put more faith in that claim but they’ve long since blown all credibility. 04 was the election where Rove lied about McCain left and right and where Kerry got Swift-boated by a group who had every single claim refutted.

I do, however, know that there’s a republican in Prison for 10 Months for illegally robo-calling democratic phone banks in ‘04. That was proven in court.. not just an unsubstantiated claim. Reality bites Jim.

It’s also a shame that you think what Laura said was “free speech”. Is conspiracy to comit a crime free speech? No. Is Contracting a murder free speech? No. Heck, yelling ‘Fire’ in a crowded theater is not even free speech nor is making a joke about a bomb in an airport.
Just because someone is saying something doesn’t mean that statement is protected. You can’t slander. You can’t conspire to break the law. You can’t instruct people to break the law for you. You can’t even say something false with reckless disregard because it’s your ass on the line when something bad happens.

It really looks like Laura Ingrham told her listeners to break the law. There is a Republican operative in Jail right now for doing essentially the same thing. By directing her fans to surpress voter turn out she probably broke the law. The real problem is.. her listeners actually did it.
I strongly suspect she’ll loose her show as the FCC will likely step in. She’ll also likely go to court over this. I think she might have ended her career tonight.
What an idiot. She really does hate our democracy and I’m not being snarky. It’s only OK to support democracy when it’s going your way apparently.

BTW.. do you even realize your own hypocracy? Your attempt at an argument completely boiled down to.. ‘Democrats probably did something in 04 so Laura should be able to also’. Sheesh.

You obviously don’t understand market conditions and how they work. The point of my post that the Nasdaq had already dropped before Bush took office was to point out that it was already in crisis before he even took the reigns. Bush had to jump in front of it and try to recover it. Like trying to stop a huge snowball rolling down a mountain. It was so out of control that it dropped all the way down to 1100 before it could even begin to recover. And you’re right. It still hasn’t come back up to 3500 yet but it has almost doubled since late 2002, early 2003. When did tax cuts take affect? Oh yeah, late 2002, early 2003.

And I would appreciate, if you want to debate me or discuss ideas, to refrain from name calling. I don’t appreciate being called an idiot.

I’m sorry about your yard signs, but I’ve heard of the same thing happening to some of my Democrat friends. And like it or not, this is different from encouraging thousands of listerners (or maybe more) to commit a crime: obstructing an election.

  243. LOL, Inghram never said to jam the line or make it inoperative at all. She was commenting on how idiotic this this is. It says call the number and then you get transferred and about what these vote cops must look like. The fact that Leahy wants this investigated just shows how backwards these libtards really are. We have global terrorism, a nuclear Iran, a nuclear N Korea, and Iraq all on our plate and THIS is what Leahy is concerned about? A talk show host making fun of the Dem Vote line? Talk about idiotic.
