Local HistoryEach North Shore Library holds a collection of material that documents the areas local history. Takapuna library also holds items of national heritage in its New Zealand Collection on the 2nd floor. You do not need to be a member of North Shore Libraries to view these collections. Below are glimpses of the North Shore from our digital collection delivered through the 'Capturing our Past' project. Capturing our PastMon DesirThis presentation is a fictional extract of the diary of a staff member at the Mon Desir Hotel on the corner of The Promenade and Hurstmere Road during the 1930s. It is based on information given by Babs Bass who worked at the hotel during that era and extracts from her recording for the North Shore Oral History Project have been included in the presentation. Enter The Mon Desir Auckland Harbour BridgeThis presentation tells the story of the building and continuing history of the Auckland Harbour Bridge in celebration of forty five years of operation on the 30th May 2004. Over that time the Bridge has impacted in some way on the lives of every Aucklander. This production contains images of the Bridge's history and the memories and comments of people for whom the huge structure holds a special significance.
