Our downtown Portland, Oregon hotel
is an architectural gem
The 5th Avenue Suites Hotel opened its doors in downtown Portland, Oregon in May 1996. After extensive renovation, the 1912 building that once housed the distinguished Lipman Wolfe Department Store and then the retailer Frederick & Nelson, is now home to our 221-room boutique hotel featuring almost all suites. Designer Michael Booth of Babey-Moulton, San Francisco, took advantage of the original soaring ceilings and picture windows of the lobby and replaced molded plaster and wood to the ceiling to mimic that of the original store. Other details throughout this downtown hotel are in keeping with the architectural preservation so prevalent throughout Portland, Oregon.
An annual holiday celebration took place during Lipman Wolfe's heyday with a visit from the Cinnamon Bear. Over the course of two weeks, the "Adventures of the Cinnamon Bear" tale was told over the waves of a local radio station, a story children throughout Portland eagerly awaited each evening. The children were able to personally meet the Cinnamon Bear as he wandered the Lipman Wolfe Department Store, handing out his special cookies.
The 5th Avenue Suites Hotel still celebrates this tradition. A Cinnamon Bear "look-a-like" will be found nestled on your bed upon arrival (you can take him home with you for a minimal cost). Special touches like this are what makes our downtown Portland, Oregon hotel a unique experience. |
