General ...

The island of Crete  is connected with most of the airports in Greece, many European countries and Cyprus, with regular or charter flights. From the  two International Airports operating in the island, in Heraklion and in Chania, the airport in Heraklion is closer to Conference site. 
Companies that operate regularly  and have flights  to and from Crete are Air Greece, British Airways, Cronus Airlines, EasyJet, KLM and Olympic Airways (National Greek Air Carrier).

By plane

    From  Athens  to Crete

    Athens International Airport (AIA) is your most likely port of entry to Greece.  All Olympic Airways  flights arrive in and depart from the Western Terminal (access via Siggrou Ave.), and all other international flights arrive in and depart from the Eastern Terminal (access via Vouliagmenis Ave.). There is a bus to get you from one terminal to the other. If you get a taxi it roughly costs 1000 DRS (or a little more, depending on your baggage).

    From Crete to ...

    From the International Airport of Iraklio there are flights to and from Athens (50 min) and to and from Thessaloniki (1 hr 50 min). The airport is 3,5 km from the city and you can reach it via a taxi or  via O.A.'s (Olympic Airways') local buses.
    The cost of a single journey by taxi is about 6,000 GRD from the airport. 
    From Heraklion are scheduled flights also  to: Rodos ( >> 40'), Santorini ( >> 40'), Mykonos ( >> 1,10 h), Paros ( >> 1 h)

By Ship

    From Athens to Crete

    There are two lines (Minoan and ANEK) with ships from Athens (Piraeus)  to Heraklion (174 nautical miles). The Cretan ships sail from the part of the port called "Agios Dionisios". Minoan lines ship sails at 7:45pm, whereas ANEK lines ship sails at 8:00pm. The passage lasts about 11 hours.
    For your transfer from the airport to the port, you may use a taxi; it takes (at most) half an hour and it roughly costs 1500 DRS.

      From Crete to ....

      From Heraklion to Piraeus (174 nautical miles) there are two to three boats a day in the summer and two in the winter (every 12 hours). Ferryboats connect Heraklion (12 hrs) with Piraeus, directly and also connect Crete with Thessaloniki (24 hrs). There also are connections with Piraeus (23 hrs), stopping at several Cyclades Islands, like Santorini, Sikinos, Folegandros, Milos and Sifnos. Hydrofoils connect Crete with the nearby islands of Santorini, Ios, Naxos and Paros, in the summer. Finally, ferryboats link Crete to Cyprus, Eqypt and Israel, during summer.

Transportation to Conference Site ...

At the airport you shall be greeted by a reception committee arranged by LYTTOS Travel, who will provide you with a map of Crete, and tranfer you to your hotel by taxi or van, depending on the number of persons travelling with you.
This service is included in your registration, but you do need to contact the Lyttos Travel agency and provide them with the following information:

a) your time of arrival to the Heraklio International Airport,
b) your flight number,
c) the number of persons travelling with you, and
d) the hotel you will be staying in.
