General ... The island of Crete is connected with most of
the airports in Greece, many European countries and Cyprus, with regular or charter
flights. From the two International Airports operating in the island, in Heraklion
and in Chania, the airport in Heraklion is closer to Conference site.
From Athens to Crete Athens International Airport (AIA) is your most likely port of entry to Greece. All Olympic Airways flights arrive in and depart from the Western Terminal (access via Siggrou Ave.), and all other international flights arrive in and depart from the Eastern Terminal (access via Vouliagmenis Ave.). There is a bus to get you from one terminal to the other. If you get a taxi it roughly costs 1000 DRS (or a little more, depending on your baggage). From the International Airport of Iraklio there are
flights to and from Athens (50 min) and to and from Thessaloniki (1 hr 50 min). The
airport is 3,5 km from the city and you can reach it via a taxi or via O.A.'s

From Athens to Crete There are two lines (Minoan and ANEK) with ships
from Athens (Piraeus) to Heraklion (174 nautical miles). The Cretan ships sail from
the part of the port called "Agios Dionisios". Minoan lines ship sails at

From Crete to .... From Heraklion to Piraeus (174 nautical miles) there are two to three boats a day in the summer and two in the winter (every 12 hours). Ferryboats connect Heraklion (12 hrs) with Piraeus, directly and also connect Crete with Thessaloniki (24 hrs). There also are connections with Piraeus (23 hrs), stopping at several Cyclades Islands, like Santorini, Sikinos, Folegandros, Milos and Sifnos. Hydrofoils connect Crete with the nearby islands of Santorini, Ios, Naxos and Paros, in the summer. Finally, ferryboats link Crete to Cyprus, Eqypt and Israel, during summer.
