Below the panels of David, Jesus and Moses are further Biblical images.
Below David the Psalmist, at the left, is depicted David the shepherd.
Below Jesus are two scenes, one depicting Jesus' parable of The
Good Samaritan and the other showing acts of charity by one of Jesus' followers,
a woman named Dorcas. Below Moses, at right, is a picture of Moses kneeling
at The Burning Bush.
Above the panels of David, Jesus and Moses, there are further
symbols. Above the figure of David are two symbols showing the star of
David and the scroll typifying David. Over Moses, on the right, are
two symbols, one showing a menorah (a seven branched candlestick)
and the other the bronze serpent.
Above Jesus we see two intertwined symbols of the Trinity and the descending
dove suggesting the Spirit of God. Above these panels are angelic figures
looking up at the top, a quatrefoil for the four Gospels, enclosing the
Sacrificial Lamb of God (Jesus Christ).
Jesus is depicted in this window as both fully human and devine: 1. as
David's son, part of the royal lineage of God's chosen people, Israel;
2. God's personal message of Good News and forgiveness living in an ordinary
human world; 3. fulfilling both the Old Testament law and prophecy; and
4. resurrected, still part of the Godhead, in the new covenant or testament,
promising to be with us unto the end of the world.
THE BAPTISMAL FONT
Located at the base of the Chancel stairs, close to the Lectern,
the Baptismal font bears the inscription, "One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism."
The carvings of lilies and ivy are symbols of resurrection and everlasting life.
The octagonal base is because eight is the number often used to
synbolize the regeneration of humanity and is often associated with baptism.
Many Baptist congregations practice "believers baptism" (usually age 12 or older) by
immersion. Therefore, as originally built, there was a baptismal tank covered by a four
foot high screen at the rear of the Chancel. The tank and screen have been removed,
seats placed at the rear, and the Communion Table sits where the original pool was located.
