History
The Vancouver Yacht Club was founded in 1903, based on the principles of tradition, volunteerism and a love of yachting.

The first Clubhouse floated off the foot of Cardero Street in Coal Harbour. Docks were few, many boats had to anchor close by.
Some important dates are:
1903 Club founded 1905 Coal Harbour site in Stanley Park leased from the park commissioners 1906 Became Royal Vancouver Yacht Club 1927 Permanent Clubhouse at Jericho opened 1960 Tugboat Island in Silva Bay, Gabriola Island purchased 1965 Alexandra Island in Centre Bay, Gambier Island purchased 1972 Secret Cove on the Sunshine Coast purchased 1977 Scott Point marina on Saltspring Island purchased 1978 Jericho Clubhouse expanded 1985 Wigman Inn in Indian Arm purchased 1989 Garden Bay marina in Pender Harbour purchased 1993 Cortes Bay outstation built at Cortes Island 1996 Jericho Clubhouse substantially renovated 2003 RVYC Centennial

The Club's First Annual Ball, in the old Hotel Vancouver, in 1921, came at a time of great optimism and a booming economy for Vancouver.
