The Ereto Maasai Music Recording Session, July 2000
In July 2000, four music addicts travelled deep into the Tanzanian forests on a mission that was long overdue: record the traditional music of the Maasai people. Equipped with a four-track portable studio, four microphones, a portable power-generator and an open mind, the team spent days with the Ereto Maasai (a clan belonging to the Kisongo Maasai, one of the largest Maasai sections) to get the job done. In a dry river-bed turned into an open-sky studio, eventually more than 50 members of the Ereto Maasai participated in the recording sessions. The rolling selection of photos on this site gives you a flavour of these sessions; the making of ‘Maigisa: Songs of the Maasai’.
