Durango Neighborhoods

Durango…there’s magic here…magic in its name, in its historic downtown, in the surrounding mountains, along its clear-flowing streams…and the city has dozens of magical, diverse neighborhoods from which you can choose, all with great amenities, recreational areas, and good schools.

  • Animas City
  • Three Springs
  • Glacier Club
  • Edgemont
  • Skyridge
  • Dalton Ranch
  • Durango West

Durango, Colorado, is known for its diversity and its neighborhoods are no exception. Historic Downtown offers a charming atmosphere with shops and restaurants. North Main Avenue has a mix of residential and commercial spaces. Other areas offer more rural settings with unbelievable scenic views.

The different areas of Durango are what makes the town so special, so unique. Such beauty doesn’t come cheap, however. Homes in Durango are among the most expensive in Colorado, but in Durango, you certainly get your money’s worth. In all, there are more than 30 distinct neighborhoods in the Durango area. Here are some of those neighborhoods that warrant a closer look.

Animas City

In the northern part of Durango, Animas City is a family-friendly, diverse mix of homes. Stretching four blocks west and ten blocks east of the Animas River and Memorial Park, here’s good access to everything Durango has to offer.

Three Springs

This up-and-coming neighborhood is just minutes from downtown. It has apartments, townhomes, and single-family homes close to groceries, trails, eateries, and more. Concerts and other events are frequently held nearby. Three Springs is a very walkable community with pathways winding through the area. In fact, it’s even within walking distance of Mercy Regional Medical Center.

Glacier Club

One of Durango’s elite neighborhoods, Glacier Club is just 15 miles north of downtown Durango. Surrounded by the majestic mountains, there’s a golf course, clubhouse, and restaurant nearby. Luxury condominiums and homes are scattered throughout the tall pines and the community is just 10 miles from the skiing nirvana called Purgatory. Glacier Club is a beautiful, fulfilling place to call home.

Edgemont

This eye-pleasing neighborhood has three sections, Edgemont Meadows, Edgemont Highlands, and Edgemont Ranch. It sits just ten minutes northeast of town in the middle of a vast pine forest. Edgemont residents believe it to be one of the finest living areas in southern Colorado, and for good reason. Edgemont has houses ranging from those built in the 1990s to today’s more modern versions.

Skyridge

Overlooking Durango from the east, this neighborhood backs up to a ridge and public recreation land. With a mixture of townhomes and single-family homes, there is an opportunity here for everyone. This family-friendly neighborhood has a park, playground, tennis courts, and a wonderful trail system. Sharing the area with Fort Lewis College and Hillcrest Golf Course, Skyridge is a serious contender if you’re looking for a quality home.

Dalton Ranch

In the middle of Animas Valley sits Dalton Ranch, with its upscale houses and quaint neighborhoods. There’s Dalton Ranch Golf Club, its clubhouse, and a highly-rated restaurant. The valley features beckoning red cliffs just minutes north of Durango. Dalton Ranch has all the amenities you need, even a hot spring. With a river winding its way through the neighborhood, Dalton Ranch is one of the more popular neighborhoods in Durango.

Durango West

Durango West II is just a few moments from downtown Durango and offers homes in a quiet neighborhood amidst Ponderosa pines. Durango West is a perfect neighborhood for families. A half a mile further, Durango West I has a similar type of ambiance. Both areas are abundant with wildlife and near town as well as hiking, biking, camping, and more!

This is but a sprinkling of the many neighborhoods Durango has to offer. Call a local realtor today and visit some of them. Durango is such a special, magical place—come be a part of it!
