What Is Build-A-Palooza?
Build-A-Palooza is Habitat for Humanity’s annual fundraising festival, created to unite neighbors around the idea that housing is a community effort. Proceeds directly support the organization’s Homeownership Program, which provides families with stable, long-term mortgages at affordable rates.
“Every nail, note, and neighbor at this event helps build a stronger foundation for affordable housing in La Plata County,” organizers explain.
The 2025 theme is “Built to Wild,” encouraging costumes that can be interpreted in many ways. Attendees might show up in construction gear, playful DIY outfits, or even wild west attire. Together, the mix of looks creates a colorful crowd and plenty of chances for memorable photos.

Why Go?
Build-A-Palooza is designed as both a celebration and a fundraiser. Every donation, meal, and game contributes directly to Habitat for Humanity’s Homeownership Program, which lowers mortgage interest rates for partner families and supports long-term housing stability in La Plata County.
In a region where housing costs continue to rise, this model eases financial burdens and helps families build security.
At the same time, the event creates an atmosphere that draws people together. The carnival games and photo booths bring lighthearted fun for families, while the music lineup and beer garden carry the evening for adults.
For everyone who attends, Build-A-Palooza is a reminder that housing security is not only a personal need but also a collective effort. “More than just a party,” as development manager Lazarus Matthews puts it, “it’s a way to dance, play, and give back — all while building a better community together.”
