Abbott Elementary (TV Show)

"Abbott Elementary" is a workplace mockumentary TV series created by and starring comedian Quinta Brunson for ABC. It takes place at a predominantly Black elementary school, named Abbott Elementary, in Philadelphia. In addition to Brunson, the cast includes Sheryl Lee Ralph, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti and William Stanford Davis. It premiered on Dec. 7, 2021, and ran for 13 episodes in its first season. The show was renewed for Season 2 and expanded to 22 episodes in 2022. In January 2023, before the end of its second season, the show was renewed for Season 3. At the 2022 Emmy Awards, Ralph won for supporting actress in a comedy series and Brunson won for writing for a comedy series. James and Williams also received acting nominations, plus the series was up for best comedy and won for casting for a comedy series at the Creative Arts Emmys.

Brunson stars as Janine Teagues, a plucky, optimistic second grade teacher; Ralph is Barbara Howard, a wisened kindergartner teacher; Williams is Gregory Eddie, a substitute teacher who becomes a full time employee and crush for Janine; James is Ava Coleman, the irresponsible principal; Walter is Melissa Schemmenti, a second grade teacher with sketchy connections outside of school; Perfetti is Jacob Hill, a socially awkward and nerdy history teacher; and Davis is Mr. Johnson, the school's dutiful custodian. "Abbott Elementary" has also had some notable guest stars, including Taraji P. Henson, Leslie Odom Jr., Zack Fox, Orlando Jones and Gritty, the mascot from the Philadelphia Flyers NHL team.
