The multihyphenate impressed the industry by delivering a home run with her first major TV series project, HBO’s “True Detective: Night Country.” The Jodie Foster-Kali Reis edition of the anthology drama brought buzz back to the franchise in its fourth season after underwhelming outings in Season 2 and Season 3. López’s background is primarily in independent feature film. But her work as showrunner and director on a large-scale series shot largely in Iceland announced her arrival as a major player in prestige TV. “Night Country” also brought Foster her first Emmy Award and provided a breakthrough platform for Reis, who was also Emmy nominated. After “Night Country” made waves in January, HBO and Warner Bros. didn’t waste any time, signing López to an overall deal that keeps her at the helm of a fifth incarnation of “True Detective.”
