Ethan Shanfeld is a television reporter at Variety, where he also covers film and music. He has written extensively about entertainment, culture and media for both Variety.com and the weekly print magazine. Shanfeld has penned cover stories on the Diddy trial, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” Steve Lacy, "Severance" and more, and he's been nominated for five National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards and one SoCal Journalism Award. Prior to joining Variety in 2021 as an associate web editor, he wrote for publications such as Pitchfork, Nylon and MTV News. Shanfeld graduated from Northwestern University with a double degree in journalism and legal studies. A native Angeleno, Shanfeld is currently based in New York City.
