I am an Assistant Researcher at the Universidade do Minho, assigned to the Laboratório de Paisagens, Património e Território (Universidade do Minho, Portugal) after winning an open competition. I was Principal Researcher at the same Laboratory between 2021 and 2023 after winning an international competition funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). I lead R&D activities in architecture and historic landscapes. My research 1) analyses how architecture and landscape materialise historical changes; 2) develops methodological models that hybridise Archaeology of Architecture and Landscape Archaeology; 3) assesses the potential of heritage as a socio-economic driver from citizen science and participatory governance. I am actively involved in consultative institutions with a net impact on heritage governance. Since 2016 I coordinate the Cultural Heritage Section of the Consello da Cultura Galega (CCG), the highest advisory body of the public authorities of the Autonomous Community of Galicia, where I am part of the governing bodies and lead several commissions focused on heritage issues.
I trained as an art historian and archaeologist at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), I did my PhD at the University of the Basque Country (Extraordinary PhD Award, 2017). My thesis on architecture and fortified landscapes between Galicia and Portugal during the War of the Restoration (1640-1668) provided a theoretical-methodological proposal focused on historical fortified landscapes that I have developed in my postdoctoral stage. After its defence (2015) I joined the Galician R&D&I system, with an I2C postdoctoral contract (2016-2019) Modality A of the XuGa (2 years in Portugal). And then an I2C postdoctoral contract (2019-2021) Modality B that consolidated my line of research in Archaeology, Architecture and Historical Landscapes at USC.
I have led/lead as PI 8 competitive funding projects: 3 (Portuguese R&D System); 2 Galician R&D System; 1 Provincial (Deputation of Pontevedra); 2 Local funding (Consortium of Santiago de Compostela).
I have participated in 20 competitive funding projects: 1 International (AEI: Marie Curie); 8 State (State R&D Plan: Fecyt, National Plan, CONSOLIDER); 7 Autonomous (Galician R&D System: Consolidation and structuring, REDES); 1 Local funding (Consortium of Santiago); 1 Foundations (Palarq); 2 CSIC.
I have led 24 non-competitive projects, and participated in 26 others. I have given 30 international conferences, 10 by invitation. I am author of 58 articles in scientific journals (16 in Q1 journals, 2 in Q2) and book chapters; author, co-author of 8 research books; 2 didactic volumes; 4 popular articles.

[EN] The results of a study carried out on the remains of the Puerta Real (A Coruña) are presented. These were preserved inside an archaeological window, located in a square bounded by the streets Santiago, to the N, María Barbecho, to the NW, and Paseo Dársena to the SW and S in the city of A Coruña. The study was part of the cleaning work carried out in 2015 by Tomos Restauración Conservación S.L., as part of the general process of redevelopment of the Parque de la Marina and Plaza del Parrote in that city. The intervention consisted of the stratigraphic reading of the walls, the comparison of the construction techniques with those documented with other walls in other areas of the defensive walls of A Coruña, the analysis of the historical planimetry of the area and the characterisation and dating of the different mortars preserved using Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL). The final objective was to establish the construction sequence and dating of the remains identified as Puerta Real. This text corresponds to the final report presented at the time.
[EN] This thesis studies the fortification of the border between the South of Galicia and the North of Portugal during the War of the Portuguese Restoration (1640-1668). It analyzes the architecture and the fortified scenery that was generated there from two research strategies: Archaeology of the Architecture combined with Landscape Archaeology. It is articulated in four thematic blocks: the first block is introductory; the second block takes as a target to develop a theoretical-methodological proposal to tackle the study of the fortified sceneries of Modern Age. The third block constitutes the empirical part of the thesiswhere all the fortifications identified in the area of study are revised integrating three distinct scalar-approaches (micro, semi-micro and macro scales). Fortifications are not only part of a defensive-offensive border-line, but a core element of a fortified system that determines the border landscape and the actual construction of a physical boundary between two regions that were not properly distinct earlier on. The conclusions constitute the fourth block. As a main result, the thesis proposes an Archaeology of Built Space that aims to simultaneously study the architecture and the landscape. Finally, as part of the process to make knowledge accesible and public, a web portal has been implemented gathering together all the information from this research (www.fortalezas.es). You can see the presentation of the defense of the thesis on the Digital.CSIC attached link
[EN] This text consists of the final report of the archaeological works carried out within the development of the Management Plan for the Cross-boundary Frortresses in the Lower Miño river. Those works consisted of a superficial survey in advance to the design of the aforementioned Plan. The aim of the survey was to gather an indepth archaeological characterization of the fortresses and their immediate surroundings, and to collect additional information regarding any further cultural features related to them. However, in addition to that, we also present here the results of a series of previous works concering the organization of a series of documentary archives related to the fortresses, those of Jaime Garrido and the Architecture and Archaeology Services of the Galician Heritage Service, Board of Culture."
[English] The text reflects the result of work carried out in the Castle of La Palma between June and September 2004 as part of the project "Archaeological Surveys, reading elevations and Photographic rectification of the east and south facades of the Castle of La Palma (Mugardos, A Coruña)". The project was commissioned by the Society Castillo de La Palma Mugardos S.A. a joint team of the "Laboratory of Paisaxe Arqueoloxía" CSIC and the "Laboratory Heritage, Paleoenvironment and Paisaxe" IIT - USC. This work is framed in the development of an architectural project for the rehabilitation of the castle as Hotel.

[EN] This module will consider from a practical perspective the implications of heritage regulations and the systems used for the management and public presentation of Heritage covered in modules 3 and 7, in terms of interventions involving Archaeological Heritage. The most important methodologies and procedures used in archaeological interventions will be presented, as well as how they are adapted to different practical contexts or problems. Students must be aware that this module is unavoidably associated with the module dedicated to the treatment of material culture (module 6). The module is structured around four topics. The first presents the general conditions that affect one of the most characteristic aspects of archaeological activity: excavation. It will analyse the criteria applied and the different ways of documenting the information that is found. The second topic focuses on architectural interventions, with a brief introduction to the Archaeology of Architecture and then a review of the types of analyses applied in interventions involving built heritage. The third topic focuses specifically on one of these types of information: stratigraphy, exploring how it is studied, identified and recorded. The fourth topic will deal with urban archaeology, based on its legal and administrative framework, the problems involved and management procedures carried out with Special Plans. The module is complemented by a series of practical seminars and workshops to help illustrate and explain the different contents covered in the theoretical sessions.
