2025 UIL 6A Boys 100m
Texas speed is different than everywhere else and it showed up in the UIL 6A Boys 100m dash. Brayden Williams (Duncanville) entered with multiple times of 10.00 or better on the season, Tate Taylor (Harlan) won the indoor national title in 200m earlier this year and was second the 100m last year and freshman Dillon Mitchell (Sheldon King) is the newest phenom to hit the track.
Williams got the best start in the race, but he did not count on the closing speed of Taylor. Taylor was one of the last out of the blocks, but his top end speed is nearly unmatched. Once he started going, he ate up the ground quickly and left a trail of smoke behind him as he crossed the line in 9.92, a new wind-legal State meet and National record.
Williams was no slouch as he finished in 10.01, a second-fastest time in meet history. Richard Lee (Dickinson) grabbed the bronze medal with a time of 10.16. Mitchell set the freshman national record with his fourth place finish of 10.17 and fellow freshman Chinweoke Onwuchekwa (Cyp Springs) was just 0.01s behind him.
The wind measured 1.1 m/s, well within the limits for State and National records.
