Hurricane Melissa Relief Efforts

The Board of Directors of the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) has announced the establishment of a $1 Million Matching Fund to support critical relief and recovery efforts in Jamaica following the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa. This fund, created and underwritten by AFJ’s Board of Directors, will match dollar-for-dollar all donations made through the organization’s official donation channels. Donors who contribute via corporate matching gift programs are especially encouraged to participate, as these contributions will also be eligible for the match.

On Friday, October 10, 2025, the AFJ presented the International Humanitarian Award to Jason Henzell, O.D., Founder, Breds Foundation and Chairman, Jakes Hotel, in recognition of his extraordinary leadership and unwavering commitment to community development and social upliftment in Treasure Beach and beyond.

And the International Achievement Award Joseph Bogdanovich, President, DownSound Entertainment Limited, for his dynamic contributions to Jamaica’s cultural economy and global entertainment landscape, and his support for local talent and charitable causes.

Back-to-school Oral Health

This back-to-school season, the AFJ partnered with Cari-Med Group LTD. and the Ministry of Health and Wellness in collaboration with Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures to bring dental care to 7 locations across the Island. A total of 439 children were seen. 

The AFJ Oral Health Initiative aims to increase access to preventive dental care, promote lifelong oral hygiene habits among children and families, and strengthen community-based health education across Jamaica. Through screenings, education, and partnerships with schools and clinics, this program empowers communities with the tools to improve overall health and well-being ... starting with a smile.
