Fiction
2005 IDW continuity
Sterling hailed from the same village on Caminus as Aileron with the two eventually become Amica Endurae. Aileron eventually dragged Sterling to the big city, something that he was largely unhappy about but he nonetheless enjoyed attending ceremonies presided over by the Mistress of Flame herself. The Ground
Shortly after Caminus had joined the Council of Worlds, Swift, Aileron, and Sterling were on Cybertron, handing out religious pamphlets about Optimus Prime in the Decepticon ghetto. This prompted a mixed reaction from passerby Decepticons: Acid Storm looked at their materials out of curiosity, Sparkstalker defended the rights of the Camiens to do what they wanted as the Camiens treated Decepticons fairly, but Needlenose and Brawl decried anyone who followed a Prime. The Transgressors
Sterling and Aileron faced further troubles when the Dinobot Slug got in their faces for preaching about a Prime. Aileron stood up to Slug on Sterling's behalf, but he was downtrodden about the whole exercise, and left for the day. Aphelion Redemption
When next he saw his Amicus, Aileron was in the presence of the Prime himself. Sterling and Aileron stood by the side of Optimus Prime as he took the spacebridge to Earth, annexing that world in order to prevent Decepticon conquest. Perihelion
As he looked on in awe at Optimus's leading the charge against Galvatron's Decepticons, things got worse for Sterling when the People's Liberation Army Mecha Force began attacking the Decepticons. Unlike Aileron, Sterling could not muster one iota of sympathy for them, but he suffered their fate all the same when the Chinese government used satellites to bombard the gathered Cybertronians with heat rays. Sterling barely had time to comprehend what was happening before being blown apart. Once Upon a Time on Earth
Aileron would be left filled with rage by his death, viewing humanity as monstrous for causing it. Edge of the Earth
Starscream would later use footage of Sterling's remains, claiming he represented the fates of those naive colonists who got caught up in Prime's "expansionist" plans. The Medium and the Message
Growing increasingly disillusioned with Optimus Prime, the Devisien Slide referenced Sterling's demise noting how his death had been ignored in favour of making peace with his killers. She later brought him up to highlight the hypocrisy of humanity, noting that while the human race was determined to kill Jazz for killing John Powell, whoever pulled the trigger that killed Sterling had likely faced no consequences. Aileron told the Devisien to stop bringing him up. Primeless, Part 1
Notes
- Josh Perez colored Sterling after his favorite character from Commandrons, Solardyn.[1]
