Though Cybertron originally orbited the star Alpha Centauri, the forces unleashed by the Great War ripped the planet from its orbit and sent it hurtling into deep space. '84 #0
This fact became quite the pet peeve of the Decepticon scientists that worked on Project Dreadnought, who were quite convinced that the planetary turbine array that they endeavoured to build would readily correct their world's errant course. To try and have Megatron refocus on Project Dreadnought, and galactic conquest, Shockwave test-fired a half-completed turbine, sending the planet hurtling towards the Stellae Cimeterium. Though Shockwave used the briefing to push for a refocus on Project Dreadnought, Megatron opted to wait for Optimus Prime's response. Secrets & Lies #1
Viewing Megatron as the lynchpin of the Decepticon army, Optimus Prime commissioned the Ark, to be crewed by Autobot High Command, to clear a path through the rocks, while also acting as bait to trap Megatron off-world. As the ship's construction took a greater toll on the Autobots' limited resources, Optimus argued over its future with the High Council who found the Cimeterium to be the greater priority and Megatron to be but an upstart. This prompted Optimus to point out that, aside from the many losses they'd suffered to the Decepticons, all they needed to do to avoid the Cimeterium was trigger a series of controlled detonations to slow Cybertron enough that it could be picked up by Ursa Major's gravity field. Open to such an idea, Traachon asked why resources were still being wasted on the Ark, only to receive no answer from Prime. '84 #0
Acting on data that Punch had brought them, the Autobots sent a team to the fateful turbine where Perceptor found the data, Secrets & Lies #1 to confirm that the turbine had deliberately steered Cybertron towards the Stellae Cimeterium. Secrets & Lies #2
Notes
- "Stellae Cimeterium", as you probably guessed, roughly translates to "Star Graveyard."
