The Optimus are a faction of good guys—just how "good" they are depends on the universe they appear in and who's in charge.

Fiction
Beast Wars: Uprising
The Optimus was a triumvirate of elite Cyberdroids who ruled the planet Rebirth until the 21st century. Apex, Hi-Q, and Diac couldn't be further from their namesake if they tried—they were thoroughly corrupt and prone to cracking down on any kind of dissent, no matter how peaceful. When a group of rebels aiming to topple the oligarchy arose, the Optimus branded their rivals the "Malignus" and forcefully drove them underground.
When Galvatron and his Decepticons arrived, he joined forces with the Malignus and had the Optimus imprisoned. They got their own back when the Autobots showed up in force and liberated the three, binary bonding with Optimus Prime Derailment to form "Triple-Threat Prime". Not even this power boost was able to help, and in the end the Autobots were driven offworld, A Brush With Infamy–Prologue and Diac killed by Galvatron. Derailment

Toys
The Optimus were part of Estrela's Brazilian version of the Generation 1 toyline, along with the Malignus faction, and consisted of Mini Vehicle redecos.
Notes
- "Optimus" was the original name given to the Autobots in the first batch of Brazilian translations for the original Transformers comic (and, likewise, "Malignus" was the localized name for the Decepticons). However, as Estrela released their batch of Optimus and Malignus toys featuring what appeared to be entirely new characters with a new set of insignias and seemingly no connection to the concurrently available media, fans started treating the two names as fully fledged alternative factions in the broader Transformers universe rather than just translations. Eventually, modern official media depictions of both the Optimus and Malignus would also adopt this perspective.
