Li Yi

Li Yi (李易 Lǐ Yì October 24, 1963-July 23, 2013) was a Chinese announcer and voice actor.
He graduated from Communication University of China in 1986, and used to be the professor of Communication University of China. From 1987 to 1997, he generally dubbed domestic and foreign TV series and films. Since 1997, he turned to dub advertisements and documentaries. His best known dubbing works are Around The World In 80 Days (1989), Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), JFK (1991), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), and he is best known by Chinese audience for the Mandarin voice of Squidward Tentacles in SpongeBob SquarePants. In 2002, he found Shijie Mingzuo Cultural Development Corporation Ltd., and became the chairman of the company.
In 2013, he caught the acute leukemia, and passed away in Peking University People's Hospital at 1:40 on July 23. On January 22, 2018, the six-part documentary series China Reinvents Itself was broadcast on CCTV-9. His voice was revived by AI technology for narrating the documentary.
