Continuity and timeline
The world of the Primus Vanguard exists in a unique place in the Japanese Generation 1 cartoon continuity. Outside of traditional space and time, the "Precursor World" is an ongoing narrative that is visited by Cybertronians from various eras, often decades apart. For simplicity's sake, the major eras involved are listed below.
- 2011: Era of Optimus Prime and Galvatron
- Where our story begins and ends, here a joint Autobot-Decepticon coalition seals Unicron's physical form (mostly) for good at the Triple Z Point, positioning his spirit to take its revenge in Beast Wars Neo. Super Megatron comic 1Finale
- 2020: Era of Turtler and his Seacons
- Some time between Super-God Masterforce and Zone, here a defeated Turtler is picked up by Space Pirate captain Halfshell and gifted a robot mode in exchange for his aid on a mysterious mission (see below). Seacons comic 5
- 2050: Era of the Dinobots and Terrorcons
- Hoo boy. The big one. This era sees the rise of the second Cybertron Alliance and the flowering of human civilization on the backs of the Angolmois powered slave race known as the Selectors. Volcanicus comic 1 Volcanicus is born, the Selectors rebel, and mankind makes a devil's bargain with the Quintessons that results in the razing of Neo Scramble City. Volcanicus comic 2Abominus comic 1 Catastrophic Angolmois eruptions rock the planet and humanity and the Cybertron Alliance are forced to evacuate the Earth when they inadvertently unleash the force of nature that is Megatron Omega. Abominus comic 2 Thus, the Earth becomes the abandoned jungle planet known only as Gaia, the Transformers destroy all records of its existence lest its massive Angolmois deposits fall into the wrong hands, and the stage is set for Beast Wars II. Finale
- The Distant Future: Era of the Space Pirate Seacons
- Some time after the events of Beast Wars II, we check in with the Space Pirate Seacons to find them betrayed and left for dead on a routine proton energy harvest by their employer, a fellow pirate named Duncan. Seacons comic 5 Repaired by a mysterious benefactor, Halfshell is extorted via the kidnapping of new crewmate Lawbhammer into recruiting their 21st century counterparts and carrying out an interdimensional heist. God Neptune comic 2
- The End and the Beginning
- Several characters postulate about the precise relationship between the Precursor World and the world of Optimus and Galvatron throughout the narrative, but in the finale the precise details are finally revealed: The Precursor World is the universe before the G1 World of Optimus, Galvatron and friends, rendering the events of the comic one massive closed time loop. Finale Prelude While several Precursor World natives guess at some form of reincarnation, it is ultimately revealed that Primus and Primacron are the only survivors of the transition between worlds, with the Zodiac acting as the conserved sum total of all life energy.
