Atari, Inc is a video game publisher and developer originally founded in 1972. Their Atari 2600 system was one of the first dedicated game consoles and helped popularize cartridge gaming during the medium's early days, though lack of proper credit would lead several employees such as David Crane to leave the company and found the first third-party developer, Activision. Through a complicated path of mergers and acquisitions, including Hasbro Interactive at one point, the company is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the French Atari SA corporation, formerly known as Infogrames.
