Artificial gravity is a common technology used on space ships, and is useful for avoiding the crew floating randomly around the ship interior. One method of creating artificial gravity is with gravity generators.

With a Matrix-empowered Thunderwing loose on the Ark, Nightbeat came up with a plan to get rid of the Decepticon: he had Hosehead turn off the artificial gravity and then speared Thunderwing with the harpoon on the ship's shuttle. Bereft of his force field abilities, when Trailcutter had to face Lockdown's team of Titan Hunters in one of the Lost Light's shuttle bays, he procured a remote control for the ship's gravity generator. He was able to use it to switch off the gravity, while securing himself to the floor with his magnawheels, and bluff the Decepticons into thinking that he still had his force field powers. When Megatron invaded the Autobot ship and had Optimus Prime by the neck, Optimus used his grappler to hit a lever, turning off the ship's artificial gravity. Unfortunately with Bulkhead on board, this resulted in a lot of crashing around.
