I argue that the question of data is fundamentally a feminist question. In this talk I draw on the work of feminist thinkers to take up the 'creepy glitch' as a framework to illuminate techno-masculinist normat ivities in data systems\, and to find opportunities for disruption. In one example from my research on digital dating apps in Mumbai\, the political category of the 'creep' emerges as a glitchy figure to keep away from the digital spaces of dating. In a second example from my research on the pla tform economy of domestic work in New Delhi\, the glitch emerges as a cree py failure of the economy to take off\, despite the odds. Through these ex amples\, I argue that the 'creepy glitch' embodies a politics of refusal o f (big) data systems that bring phenomena into being\, that overestimate a nd that marginalise. It helps us reimagine erratum\, corrections to the ma chine\, against the grain of violent data systems.\nSpeakers:\nDr Kavita D attani (The Oxford Internet Institute) LOCATION:1 St Giles'\, 1 St Giles' OX1 3JS TZID:Europe/London URL:https://talks.ox.ac.uk/talks/id/08b366b4-fd8c-44cb-832a-85afcf32cfe1/ BEGIN:VALARM ACTION:display DESCRIPTION:Talk:"Creepy Glitches: Data\, Desire and Domestic Work" by Dr Kavita Dattani - Dr Kavita Dattani (The Oxford Internet Institute) TRIGGER:-PT1H END:VALARM END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
