Större orter är Bolton, Farnworth, Horwich, Kearsley, Little Lever och Westhoughton.
Större delen av distriktet ingår inte i någon civil parish. Det finns endast tre samhällen med en civil parish; Blackrod, Horwich och Westhoughton.
