The Spookiest ‘Friends’ Halloween Episodes to Watch This Season

Season 8, Episode 6: “The One with the Halloween Party”

The only official “Halloween” episode in Friends is Season 8, Episode 6, “The One with the Halloween Party.” Monica and Chandler throw a last-minute costume party, with Monica dressed as Catwoman, Phoebe as Supergirl, Chandler as a pink bunny, Ross as a Spud-Nik, Joey as Chandler, and Rachel wearing regular clothes since she’s pregnant.

During the episode, Phoebe also runs into her twin sister, Ursula, and Ursula’s fiancé, Eric (played by guest star Sean Penn). She discovers that her sister has been deceiving him about who she really is. There’s also a big debate over who would win a fight, Ross or Chandler.

Season 7, Episode 10: “The One With the Holiday Armadillo”

“The One with the Holiday Armadillo” is arguably one of the best episodes of Friends. Although it takes place during the holidays, there are a ton of beloved costumes involved. Ross wants to teach his son, Ben, about Hanukkah, but when he can’t find a Santa costume at the last minute, he dresses as the “Holiday Armadillo,” who is half-Jewish. Meanwhile, Chandler shows up dressed as Santa, and Joey arrives as Superman, so it’s the closest fans will get to a second Halloween episode. 

Season 1, Episode 8: “The One Where Nana Dies Twice”

Although this isn’t an official Halloween episode, it has an eerie element with the death of Ross and Monica’s grandmother—who dies not once but twice. Ross even accidentally falls into an open grave during the burial, adding to the creepiness. Much of the episode occurs outside, with the cast dressed in black funeral attire. Meanwhile, Joey secretly watches a Giants game on a portable TV, which is very on theme for fall.

Season 1, Episodes 16 & 17: “The One with Two Parts”

“The One with Two Parts” aired just after Halloween and features Phoebe’s creepy twin sister, Ursula, who starts dating Joey. When Phoebe learns that Ursula plans to dump Joey, she pretends to be her sister and gently lets him down. With its twin-switch plot and doppelgänger vibes, this two-part episode adds a spookiness perfect for Halloween. Meanwhile, Rachel and Monica have a swap of their own after Rachel sprains her ankle. She doesn’t have insurance, so she uses Monica’s at the hospital, only for the super-cute doctors to ask them out. Hello George Clooney!

Season 5, Episode 8: “The One With All The Thanksgivings”

Another fun fall episode to watch around Halloween is “The One With All The Thanksgivings.” The crew reflects on their past Thanksgivings that went wrong, such as Chandler learning of his parents’ divorce, Phoebe losing an arm while serving as a nurse during the American Civil War in a past life, and Joey getting his head stuck in a turkey while trying to scare Chandler.

But Monica’s worst Thanksgiving is when she accidentally cuts off Chandler’s toe after he calls her “fat.” After Chandler becomes upset after learning that’s the reason why he lost his toe, Monica swings by his apartment with turkey on her head and does a funny dance for him.
