Friendship bracelets might be our current jewelry trend obsession, but they’re not the only jewelry style taking over bracelet stacks. On the complete opposite side of the accessories spectrum, diamond tennis bracelets are also in their trend-setting era—and they just so happen to make the best Valentine’s Day jewelry gifts.
If you haven’t tried the trend (or are looking for an additional string of diamonds to add to your stack) and need some help picking the best tennis bracelets, we’ve got you covered. From fine jewelry pieces with real diamonds to more budget-friendly cubic zirconia tennis bracelets, we’re sharing our must-have styles to shop, ahead.
Tennis bracelet carat size completely depends on the overall design and your personal preference. A lot of diamond tennis bracelets range from around 2 to 3 carats, but there are so many out there with a lower carat weight and plenty with more. For example, the VRAI Half Tennis Bracelet features a more petite tennis bracelet design and has a carat weight of 0.33, while the Blue Nile Oval Diamond Tennis Bracelet is a more substantial size and boasts 8 carats.
With that said, Alexis Nido-Russo, founder of Local Eclectic, says the length of the bracelet drastically impacts the overall look. “For example, a 6-inch bracelet with a total carat weight of 5 carats will look completely different than a 7.5-inch bracelet with the same carat weight,” she explains. In addition to looking at carat weight, Nido-Russo recommends looking at the stone sizes and opting for ones that are within a 2.5 and 3 mm range. “In my opinion, that is the sweet spot of mm width by stone for a tennis bracelet or necklace.”
When shopping for tennis bracelets, look at the metal and stone types to determine the quality. The highest quality tennis bracelets will include solid gold and real diamonds. If diamond quality also matters to you, look at the clarity and color, too.
The clasp can also determine the quality. Since diamond tennis bracelets are a higher-priced item, most come with a box clasp that locks into place and is much less likely to accidentally come undone to ensure you won’t lose the fine jewelry piece. However, some more costume and fashion jewelry pieces will opt for a lobster claw and adjustable chain for a more precise fit.
Another thing worth considering? The weight. “With tennis [bracelets], you want something that has a little weight to it because that will ensure that it lays properly,” says Nido-Russo. “A heavier bracelet typically means higher quality.”
In addition to these details, Nido-Russo says to make sure you’re buying from a store or designer who you trust. So, doing your research, asking friends about their favorite jewelry pieces, and looking at customer reviews can go a long way on the quality front.
