Lily Allen‘s new album West End Girl is causing a stir online. Many netizens want to know the real identity of Natalie, and the alleged person who inspired the character reacted to the songs about her.

Allen’s fifth full-length album is inspired by her turbulent marriage to David Harbour. The 40-year-old musician was married to the Stranger Things actor from 2020 to 2024. Lots of songs in the album allude to him cheating on her.

On the “Smile” singer’s side, she offered blatant examples of cheating. In the song “Tennis,” she recounts the time she found out about the affair

She sings, “So I read your text, and now I regret it / I can’t get my head ’round how you’ve been playing tennis / If it was just sex, I wouldn’t be jealous / You won’t play with me and who’s Madeline?”

The subject gets expanded upon in “Madeline,” where she talks to the mistress about the events that transpired. “I know none of this is your fault / Messaging you feels kind of assaultive,” she sings in the first lines. “Saw your text, that’s how I found out / Tell me the truth and his motives.”

“How long has it been going on? Is it just sex or is there emotion? / He told me it would stay in hotel rooms, never be out in the open / Why would I trust anything that comes out of his mouth? / Oh, why would I trust anything that comes out of his mouth?” she sings.

Who Is Madeline in Lily Allen’s West End Girl?

In an interview with The Times, Lily Allen admitted that Madeline was a character that was based on several people. “[She’s] a fictional character,” she admitted. “I just feel we are living in really interesting times — in terms of how we define intimacy and monogamy, people being disposable or not,” she told the outlet. “The way we are being intimate with each other is changing as humans. Lots of young women are not finding the idea of marriage or even a long-term relationship that attractive any more.”

However, one person has come forward claiming that she’s the subject of the song.

Who Is Natalie Tippett?

Natalie Tippett claimed that she was Madeline in an interview with the Daily Mail. The costume designer seemingly worked with David Harbour on the set of We Have a Ghost, which was filmed in 2021 in New Orleans, where Tippett lives.

“Of course I’ve heard the song,” she told the gossip publication. “But I have a family and things to protect. I have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and I understand this is going on. It’s a little bit scary for me.”

However, when she was pressed about her texts being used for the songs’ lyrics, she said. “Yeah. I just don’t feel comfortable talking about it at the moment.”
