Weekend spotlight, Thanksgiving edition
The Catalyst’s guide to weekend arts and entertainment.

“Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together and welcome Tom Turkey to the stage!”
Now that our terrible Thanksgiving weekend spotlight joke is out of the way, how about we go all laser-focus on the actual onstage events over the next few days in the bay area?
There aren’t many, of course. Holiday weekends tend to skew that way.
However, if you’ve got family in town, and will be looking for entertainment, read on. Here’s what’s going on.
Today (Wednesday, Nov. 26)
Twilight in Concert. There will be 12 musicians (a small orchestra) and more than a thousand twinkling “candles” on the Ruth Eckerd Hall stage as the 2008 Twilight film (the first entry in the long-running vampire romance series) plays out in high definition. The music has been removed from the movie’s soundtrack, so it’s all performed live-to-screen. Tickets for the 7 p.m. event are here.

Friday (Nov. 28)
Hannah Berner. The standup comedian, known for the podcasts Giggly Squad and a Netflix special, We Ride at Dawn, is onstage at 7 p.m. at the Mahaffey Theater. Find tickets here.
Saturday (Nov. 29)
Christian Nodal. The Mexican “mariacheño” singer and guitarist, winner of three Latin Grammys, performs at 8 p.m. at Benchmark Arena. Tickets.
Dave Koz & Friends Christmas. The genial jazz saxman’s annual holiday visit to Ruth Eckerd Hall includes Jonathan Butler, with Haley Reinhart, Casey Abrams and Kayla Waters. The show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets are here.
Cirque Dreams Holidaze. Circus arts (acrobatics, juggling etcetera) combine with singers and dancers, lights and effects and stage-sized holiday decorations for this touring show, an annual visitor to the Mahaffey Theater. Shows are at 4 and 8 p.m.; tickets are at this link.
Blazing Saddles. Thanksgiving with the fam just wouldn’t be complete without a screening of Mel Brooks’ twisted 1974 cowboy comedy. Time: 7:30 p.m. Place: Capitol Theatre. Tickets: Click here, pardner.
Sunday (Nov. 30)
Jagged Edge. Brothers Brian and Brandon Casey, Kyle Norman and Richard Wingo remain this veteran Atlanta R&B group, which scored four consecutive gold albums in the early part of the 21st century. Jagged Edge’s biggest and best-known hits include “Where the Party At,” “Let’s Get Married,” “Promise” and the Notorious B.I.G. mashup “Nasty Girl.” Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are here.
Nashville Brass. Somewhere in your grandmother’s scratchy old records is an album by Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass. While singer and trumpet player Davis passed away in 2008, at age 83, the group continues performing country and pop hits. They have a 3 p.m. matinee Sunday at the New Tampa Performing Arts Center. Tickets are at this link.
Theater for Thanksgiving
A Christmas Story. The beloved 1980s holiday film has been turned into a musical, from the team behind Dear Evan Hanson and La La Land, and the national tour is stopping at the Straz Center’s Morsani Hall for six performances between Friday and Sunday. See all showtimes and get tickets (or shoot yer eye out, you decide) at this link.
The Ira Levin thriller Deathtrap continues at freeFall Theatre Friday through Sunday (showtimes and tickets here), while LAB Theater Project has performances of Owen Robertson’s So Long Life Saturday and Sunday (showtimes and tickets here).
