Five ways to give back and get involved in your community

If you’re searching for ways to give back, the Catalyst’s Impact Connector is here to help. Each week, we feature five organizations in the Tampa Bay area that need your input, whether that’s time, talent, items, funding or simply awareness. We’re certain you’ll find something here that matches your interests and will positively impact the community.

Yoga and beach cleanup at Fort DeSoto

The mission of MAR (Mindful Action for Regeneration) is to connect people with nature in order to inspire collaborative action that regenerates ecosystems and strengthens the well-being of people and the planet.

Take MAR is hosting yoga with Brice Peoples followed by a beach cleanup at Fort DeSoto’s North Beach – Pavilion 5, Saturday, Dec. 20 from 8 until 11 a.m.

Participants should bring a yoga mat or towel, a reuseable water bottle, comfortable clothes, sunscreen and a hat. All cleanup supplies will be provided.

Volunteers ages 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Information about parking will be provided one or two days prior to the event.

Pollinator Garden Workday at McGough Nature Park

George C. McGough Nature Park is a 26-acre park along the Intracoastal Waterway in Largo. It features shady trails, live animal exhibits and a deck overlooking a pond filled with aquatic turtles.

The park is hosting a Pollinator Garden Workday, Saturday, Dec. 20 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Volunteers are needed to help with gardening and creating a welcoming environment for pollinators.

Tarpon Springs Cartin’ Tarpon Parade

Cartin’ Tarpon, a volunteer-driven group in Tarpon Springs that hosts activities and events to raise funds for local charities, is holding its 6th annual Cartin’ Tarpon Christmas Golf Parade Saturday, Dec. 20 from 4 to 9 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit the Tarpon Springs “Shop with a Cop” program where local children are paired with a police officer for a special Christmas shopping experience.

Tickets include appetizers before and after the parade, live music, a photo of your golf cart and drink specials. Raffle tickets will be available for a wide variety of gift cards and baskets, and prizes will be awarded for the best decorated cart.

The festivities begin at the Tarpon Springs Yacht Club, 350 North Spring Blvd., Tarpon Springs.

Volunteer with Oldsmar Organic Community Garden

The Oldsmar Organic Community Garden is a non-profit organization founded in 2011 that offers raised bed gardening plots to the community and provides educational information about organic gardening.

Volunteer opportunities include planting, weeding, mulching, cultivating, harvesting edible and non-edible organic plants and other garden projects throughout the the year. The organization is also looking help to build their website.

Hours worked can be used towards school credits, business credits, court ordered credits, scout groups and more.

Visit St. Pete-Clearwater seeks brand ambassadors

Visit St. Pete-Clearwater is looking for high-energy brand ambassadors with excellent communication skills to volunteer and promote the area to visitors at local festivals and events.

Events include the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, the Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival, St Pete Pride, the Clearwater Offshore National Championship and John’s Pass Seafood Festival.

Volunteers will help staff greet visitors, hand out free merchandise and answer questions about the destination.

All brand ambassadors will receive a Visit St. Pete-Clearwater t-shirt and passes to events at which they volunteer.
