ENGINEERED STONE WILL BE BANNED IN AUSTRALIA FROM 1 JULY
The CFMEU has won our hard-fought campaign to eliminate this killer stone from our country. From 1 July 2024, the use, importation, and manufacture of engineered stone will be banned in Australia.
If not for our members’ tireless efforts, this result wouldn’t have been possible. You rallied with us, wrote to ministers, shared our content, and advocated for an end to this deadly product. Because of you, more than 100,000 workers won’t needlessly die from engineered stone.
The CFMEU remains completely committed to keeping this killer stone off our sites, and we will not allow engineered stone on our sites from 1 July 2024.
Silicosis is preventable and needlessly endangers workers’ lives. There are a multitude of alternatives to engineered stone that will not give workers an early death sentence. The companies that have profited from the diminished health and safety of workers have made enough money off their backs, and we are proud to be putting an end to it.
