Star Wars Adventures Ashcan is a special preview issue of the Star Wars Adventures series of comics aimed at the "next generation of comic book fans." It was released digitally on July 12, 2017 at StarWars.com and physically at San Diego Comic-Con. The stories featured in this issue were not reprinted until Star Wars Adventures, Volume 1: Heroes of the Galaxy.[4]

Plot summary[]

As C-3PO and R2-D2 are called to the command center, R2 believes they need to report to engineering and droid repair first. He also says they are expected to do visitor relations. C-3PO notices the guests and realizes their job is to entertain them until the repair services are online. The pair of droids decide to tell a story to their guests. C-3PO's first idea for a story is to tell one of their master Luke Skywalker from his boyhood on Tatooine.

R2-D2 wonders why their guests would care about such a story if they know that Luke eventually left Tatooine, to which the protocol droid responds by highlighting how the story is about the journey, not the destination. R2's next idea is to tell a story about Darth Vader, thinking of a story when a young Anakin Skywalker stole the parts for C-3PO's photoreceptors. C-3PO, not remembering Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker, only thinks of how awful the Sith was and how he once saw him on Bespin.

R2 then suggests a story about the Sith assassin Asajj Ventress. C-3PO finds this idea a bit too dramatic. He does recognize, however, that the galaxy is full of strange and curious stories of all genres. He becomes engrossed by all the many stories they could tell. R2-D2 tells the rambling protocol droid that they have run out of time. This saddens C-3PO, but he promises that he will tell the guests full stories when they get a chance.

  3. Star Wars Adventures Ashcan takes place after "The Crimson Corsair and the Lost Treasure of Count Dooku." "The Crimson Corsair and the Lost Treasure of Count Dooku" refers to the prologue as taking place 50 years prior to the main story. The prologue takes place in between "The Wrong Jedi" and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, both of which are placed in 19 ABY by Star Wars: Galactic Atlas. Therefore the prologue takes place in 19 BBY, the main story takes place around 31 ABY, and the earliest that Star Wars Adventures Ashcan can be set is 31 ABY. However, according to Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, R2-D2 was shut down during the Destruction of the Jedi Temple and didn't get re-activated until the events of Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, which Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates to 34 ABY. Therefore, the earliest Star Wars Adventures Ashcan can be set is 34 ABY.
