"Yes—unfortunately, my dear estranged family builds TIE fighters for the Empire."
―Gracalia Vatara Sienar, on her family, the controllers of Sienar Fleet Systems[2]

Sienar Fleet Systems (SFS)[16] was one of the foremost starship, arms, and drive manufacturers within the galaxy, best known for its TIE fighter series craft during the reign of the Galactic Empire. It was formerly known as Republic Sienar Systems during the Republic Era.[4] The company owned several planets that it numerically designated, such as the world of 73.[5]

The company reorganized into Sienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems and Sienar-Jaemus Army Systems following the Galactic Concordance to avoid arms restrictions against selling weaponry to the First Order.[20]

History[]

Galactic Republic era[]

"The latest from Sienar!"
"Rocket launchers?"
"Shoulder-fire. Very expensive."
Hondo Ohnaka and Ahsoka Tano during the Clone Wars[21]

As Republic Sienar Systems,[4] Sienar manufactured much of the Galactic Republic's military shuttles and landing craft during the Clone Wars. The Republic Navy also commissioned Sienar to manufacture a prototype corvette, a stealth ship equipped with an experimental cloaking device—reportedly developed by Republic engineers—that rendered the ship invisible and undetectable to scanners and sensors. Republic forces used the spear-shaped stealth ship to destroy a Separatist dreadnought, but the cloaking technology's enormous expense and maintenance requirements discouraged the Navy from commissioning additional stealth ships.[13] By the end of the Clone Wars, they were bankrupt and owned by the InterGalactic Banking Clan. After the invasion of Scipio, SFS' holdings fell to the office of the Chancellor.[1]

Upon the rise of the Galactic Empire, Raith Sienar became the head of SFS, designing the Imperial TIE/ln space superiority starfighter personally. A competitor to Kuat Drive Yards, the rise of the Empire saw Sienar acquire key assets and engineers formerly employed by KDY, leading to the design and manufacture of the TIE fighter series.[4] The Sienar family made a fortune producing TIE fighters for the Imperial regime, only for one of its members, Gracalia Vatara Sienar, to defect and fight for the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[2] The company maintained state-of-the-art testing facilities across the planets it owned, such as Sienar Test Facility 73 on the planet 73. Within that facility,[5] Imperial engineers[22] working for Sienar worked on secret projects under the protection of a defense battalion.[5] One such project in 4 BBY[23] was the prototype TIE Avenger, one of many experimental models of TIE fighter designed to further the TIE series.[22]

Despite the secrecy that projects like the TIE Avenger depended on,[22] word of the new starfighter eventually reached the Axis network, which dispatched agent Cassian Jeron Andor to steal[23] the experimental ship.[22] The network was aided by Niya, an employee of Sienar who enjoyed her job[24] but nonetheless could no longer justify Imperial rule. Undercover as a Sienar test pilot, Andor managed to infiltrate Sienar Test Facility 73,[23] a near-impossible feat thanks to its defense battalion,[5] and escape with the Avenger.[23]

First Order era[]

By the time of the First Order's rise to power, SFS had been succeeded by Sienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems and Sienar-Jaemus Army Systems.[20]
