"Senate Commandos? How does a money-grubbing worm like Gunray rate all this security?"
Ahsoka Tano[2]

The Senate Commandos were an elite division of the Galactic Republic's Senate Guard, tasked with protecting the Galactic Senate and the Supreme Chancellor along with other high-value individuals. A highly regarded force consisting of the best and bravest members of the Guard, the commandos carried out secret missions on behalf of the government,[5] journeying to galactic hotspots to protect key Republic officials.[6] They were also distinguished from the rest of the Guard by their armor, which was made to be more flexible and battle ready than the ornamental uniforms of their rank-and-file counterparts.[1] The guards were trained in armed and unarmed combat, as well as security and operations.[6] They also utilized more heavy blaster rifles such as DC-15A blaster carbines and wooden-stocked DC-15A blaster rifles.[7]

During the Clone Wars, Captain Faro Argyus, an officer of the Senate Commandos, betrayed the Republic by assisting the Separatists with the rescue of Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray.[8] With the fall of the Republic, the Senate Guard was phased out and replaced by stormtroopers and the Imperial Royal Guard of Emperor Palpatine.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Senate commandos first appeared in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film.[9]

For their appearances in The Clone Wars film and series, their model used the same basic body of a clone trooper, with a custom blue paint job, different head, and a large scarab-like shoulder pad with the Senate seal for the captain.[10]
