Platoons were used in the armies of various governments including the Galactic Empire.
A platoon was a subdivision of soldiers in various military forces in the galaxy, such as the Grand Army of the Republic, the Separatist Droid Army, and the Imperial Army's Stormtrooper Corps, and the First Order Army's Stormtrooper Corps. During the New Republic Era, the Corporate Sector Authority created an army of CSA troopers divided into platoons and other military units. A full CSA platoon comprised twenty troopers, and a CSA company was composed of three platoons.

A platoon was a military unit that consisted of soldiers.
Platoons were military units used by various military organizations, such as the Grand Army of the Republic,[3] the Separatist Droid Army,[4] the Galactic Empire's Stormtrooper Corps,[1] and the First Order's Stormtrooper Corps.[5] In the Galactic Republic's Grand Army, each company consisted of four platoons of thirty-six soldiers, which were each divided into four squads. Each platoon was commanded by a clone lieutenant.[3] In the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps, a platoon consisted of five squads, giving one a total of fifty stormtroopers. A company consisted of four Imperial platoons.[6] In the army of the Corporate Sector Authority, a company was divided into three platoons; at full strength, a platoon comprised twenty CSA troopers.[2] IG-227 Hailfire-class droid tanks could be organized into platoons.[7]
History[]
Republic Era[]
After achieving victory over the Sith,[8] the Galactic Republic saw no need for a formal military force.[9] However, smaller defense forces like the Republic Defense Coalition[10] and Judicial Forces were maintained in defense of Republic interests.[11] A platoon of Republic peacekeeping troops was deployed to the holy moon of Jedha[12] in 382 BBY[13] after "the Mother" of the Path of the Open Hand manipulated events into the Battle of Jedha. The platoon arrived alongside a group of Jedi and shut down the fighting.[12]
A platoon of the 501st Legion served in the Battle of Umbara.
When the Clone Wars began in 22 BBY,[13] the Republic created a new Republic Military for itself, with the new force based around the clone troopers produced on the planet Kamino. Meanwhile, the breakaway Confederacy of Independent Systems deployed a battle droid-based military.[9] During the war, the Separatist-aligned Umbaran Militia ambushed a clone platoon of the 501st Legion led by Clone Captain Rex and Jedi General Pong Krell during the Battle of Umbara[14] of 20 BBY. In 19 BBY,[13] the Battle of Ringo Vinda saw a platoon of B2 super rocket troopers attacking the forces of the Republic.[15]
Imperial Era[]

During a training exercise at the Arkanis Academy, Zare Leonis was a member of Cresh-3 Platoon.[17] During the Galactic Civil War, Imperial Commander Dreed deployed a platoon of stormtroopers in a Sentinel-class landing craft to the planet Sullust in an attempt to capture Princess Leia Organa while she was trying to rescue an Alderaan Enclave located there. The platoon attacked the Alderaanians in the enclave but were defeated and killed when Organa led a herd of rockrenders into the battle.[1]
Two platoons of BX-series droid commandos were activated to serve as a private army for Darth Vader.
Seeking secret forces who would be his to command alone,[18] the Sith Lord Darth Vader used a droid factory to produce two platoons of BX-series droid commandos which he then led in an assault on the research base of the scientist Doctor Cylo. One of the platoons was destroyed in the attack by the twins Morit Astarte and Aiolin Astarte, who had been cybernetically enhanced by Cylo to replace Vader.[19] Vader's personal agent Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra then took command of another platoon of commando droids to break into the private villa of the Naboo mortician Commodex Tahn, who had information that Vader was interested in.[16]
New Republic Era[]
The Imperial remnant led by Moff Gideon had a platoon of dark troopers, though they were destroyed by the Mandalorian Din Djarin and Jedi Luke Skywalker.[20] During the New Republic Era, Viceprex Coromun was ordered by his commanding officer, Steadfast, to assign three platoons—a full company—of CSA troopers to assist the Jedi hunter Ochi in the search for Dathan, Miramir, and Rey.[2] The Stormtrooper Corps of the emerging First Order, the successor to the Empire, also made use of platoons.[5]
