Plot summary[]
Chewbacca invites his friend Rey to celebrate Life Day with him and his family on his homeworld Kashyyyk. They travel aboard the Millennium Falcon, but are secretly tailed by the Twi'lek bounty hunter Mwarr Ja'Randa. On the ground, the pair are greeted by Chewbacca's son, Lumpawaroo. They venture to the Life Day tree, and Rey is amazed by the beauty of the Life Day Orbs and holograms of loved ones lost.
As Rey is distracted by the festivities, Ja'Randa sneaks through the crowd until she gets a clear shot. The bounty hunter fires her blaster pistol at Rey, but the Force-sensitive scavenger senses the danger and leaps out of the line of fire. Ja'Randa's bolts strike the Life Day tree, creating a small fire. Chewbacca and Lumpawaroo race towards the bounty hunter, and she fires a wrist-mounted grappling hook into the branches of the tree to escape Chewbacca's bowcaster fire.
Chaos grows as the fire spreads, and Rey is overtaken by the noise and emotional pain. Her Wookiee friends, however, continue their pursuit, with Lumpawaroo swinging on a vine towards Ja'Randa. The bounty hunter is able to sever his vine with a well-aimed blaster bolt, sending Lumpawaroo crashing to the ground. Chewbacca rushes to his son's aid, and Rey sets off to bring the violent interloper to justice.
The hunter now the prey, Rey chases her through the forest. Ja'Randa, clever as she is, fires a blaster bolt in the opposite path at a fork in the path. Though the main Wookiee attack force rushes towards the fresh fire, Rey, Chewbacca, and Lumpawaroo are farther behind. Rey senses the ruse through the Force and asks the Wookiee pair to stay behind for their safety. Chewbacca refuses to let her go alone, so all three rush in the direction of Ja'Randa.
At a cliff's edge, Rey senses Ja'Randa close, but cannot tell where she is. Ja'Randa leaps from a tree onto Lumpawaroo's back and holds him hostage. She puts all three in binders, hoping to get a larger payday for getting the Wookiees as well. She even brags that her colleagues Mill Alibeth and Vivert Stag will be jealous of her getting such a big score.
The bounty hunter and her three prisoners eventually hear a snap from an above tree. The sound is the Wookiee Viiveenn leaping at Ja'Randa, tackling her over the cliff's edge. Viiveenn manages to grab a small outcropping of rock with Ja'Randa hanging onto her foot. Still bound, Lumpawaroo holds his father's shins while he holds Rey's, and the latter two dangle over the edge to reach for Viiveenn. She manages to grab Rey's wrists, and the Wookiees hoist one another back up the cliff side. As Viiveenn climbs onto land, however, Ja'Randa loses her grip and begins to fall to certain death. Rey catches her with the Force, saving her.
With a bound Ja'Randa in tow, the Wookiees and Rey head back to the Life Day tree. They find that the Wookiees had banded together to redecorate. Chewbacca hands Rey a Life Day Orb, and she in turns gives it to Ja'Randa in a show of undeserved kindness. Later, all in attendance sit at a massive table for a grand feast. They even let Ja'Randa blast the roast beast with her pistol.
Amid the joy and celebration, Rey notices Viiveenn slip away from the others and decides to follow her. The Wookiee visits the hologram of her father, Yarua, which reminds Rey of her own nostalgia for the memory of her parents. She decides to give her the doll her friend Finn gave her, which actually belonged to Viiveenn long before. Chewbacca gives Rey a big hug from behind, and she wishes him a happy Life Day.
