"Although my travels did not take me to the howler's homeworld of Peridea—apparently it exists far beyond the known galaxy—legends of these remarkable beasts have traveled across the stars."
Ardis San Tekka[1]

Howlers were extragalactic furred quadrupedal creatures native to the planet Peridea. Howlers could be tamed and ridden, and would respond to commands as demonstrated by Enoch and Sabine Wren, who used the word "tota" to order one such creature to sit.[4]

Howlers were also ridden by a group of bandits that resided on Peridea.[4] These bandits rode the creatures into battle when they attacked Sabine Wren, Ezra Bridger, and a group of Noti nomads.[5]

Sabine Wren rides a howler

An extragalactic species[4] of canines that inhabited the barren wilderness[2] of wastelands and grasslands that made up the planet Peridea,[3] howlers were non-sentient, quadrupedal animals[1] with shaggy brown[2] or white fur.[5]

Howlers exhibited extreme loyalty, with one refusing to part with its rider, Sabine Wren, even though they had only recently met and despite her scolding it and insisting it leave her alone.[4] Indeed, howlers thrived on interactions and sought out the approval of the whatever creature they saw as the alpha.[1] While it would take patience, howlers could be domesticated and would become devoted companions to their tamer. In particular, howlers grew attached to masters who were kind to them.[3] They would also display signs of aggression, becoming agitated towards unfamiliar beings. That behavior frightened members of the Noti species, who shared a homeworld with the howlers.[4]
