- "I was a Jedi—but no longer. My time in the Order was a part of my life, but it does not define me. I took what I needed from it and moved on."
- ―Grandea
Grandea was a Force-sensitive Theelin female who served as a Jedi Knight during the Clone Wars and survived Order 66 and lived well into the New Republic Era. Within a village on Lahtee, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren seemingly came into conflict with Grandea during the First Order-Resistance War. Upon defeating her, however, her body vanished and the whole village around Ren transformed into an abandoned husk of itself, much to Ren's confusion and rage.
Biography[]
Purged[]
Into hiding[]
- "The danger did not end with Order 66. My status as a member of the Order was known. The fact that my body was never discovered was also known. I was being hunted, and any person I met could be my downfall. I could trust no one. The Empire had ensured it."
- ―Grandea
Once a Knight of the Jedi Order, Grandea fought in the Clone Wars. During her time in the Order, Grandea was always fascinated by the mind trick, though felt that other Jedi dismissed the technique as undignified. As the war neared its end, Grandea was stationed alongside the Galactic Republic's clone troopers and the Rodian Jedi Alivar, who studied the Separatists' front lines, discovering a weakness to exploit. As the fatigued Grandea retrieved tea from a dispenser, the clones executed Order 66, a directive to eliminate the Jedi en masse. When confronted, Grandea used a mind trick to make two soldiers believe that she had disguised herself as one of them, turning them against each other.[2]
Grandea received a message from the Jedi temple on[2] the planet[3] Coruscant[2] sent by Obi-Wan Kenobi[4]that advised the remaining Jedi not to return and to trust in the Force. Without further instruction and possibly the last Jedi, Grandea reached out to the Force, which instructed her to survive. Knowing that the Order's destruction was being met with celebration and the Jedi themselves put to death, Grandea destroyed her lightsaber, buried her Jedi robes, and abandoned the Jedi way. Grandea attempted to hide but was aware of the continued danger, as Sheev Palpatine's new Galactic Empire instituted bounties on any remaining Jedi. Refusing to become a hermit, Grandea continued to improve her mastery of the mind trick. Practicing on a Mon Calamari bartender, a transport pilot, and a merchant, among others, she sought out species with a natural resistance to the ability, including Toydarians and Hutts, learning to overcome the strongest of wills.[2]
The Emperor's Inquisition[]
- "I'd gone far beyond anything my teachers in the temple had ever contemplated. What I was doing was no trick. I don't know how I did it, really—but it let me survive. And it still does."
- ―Grandea
At the command of Darth Vader, Grandea was pursued by two Imperial Inquisitors, the Ninth and Thirteenth Sisters. Grandea fled, losing her right leg to the Thirteenth Sister. As the Ninth Sister stabbed Grandea with her lightsaber, she used a mind trick to convince the Inquisitors that they had indeed killed their prey, the strain of the feat nearly doing so. Grandea crawled away, tearful, and suffered a nosebleed from the intensity of her earlier effort. Her mind trick successful, the Inquisitors reported Grandea's death to Vader, raising only a momentary suspicion.[2]
Relic of a bygone era[]
- "Who are you? Why do you need my death so badly? The Jedi are ancient history. What can killing a stronger who was once a member of a lost order possibly give you? Let's just see."
"Nyyyaargh! Get…out…of…my…head…"
"Oh, you poor thing. You could have been so much more." - ―Grandea
On Lahtee, Grandea was confronted by Kylo Ren. When Ren finally lashed out and struck down the Force user, she somehow continued speaking to him with glowing purple eyes, revealing to him that Jedi Master Luke Skywalker was already dead—having sensed his demise—and pondering why Ren had not sensed his death. Seemingly rising into the air, the speaking corpse taunted Ren by asking who he really was, to which Ren again lashed out to strike her down and stop her taunting. However, her body entirely disappeared with the strike, and the entire village around them suddenly transformed from its lively self to a decrepit ruin. The event confused and enraged Ren.[2]
Personality and traits[]
- "I did trust in the Force. I reached out. It told me…to survive. The Order's destruction was celebrated. The Jedi were being executed. If I wanted to live…I could no longer be one."
- ―Grandea
A Theelin, Grandea had a fascination with the Jedi mind trick and a fondness for tea.[2]
Powers and abilities[]
- "I left my Jedi identity behind, except for two things. My connection to the Force…and the mind trick. I focused on it exclusively, used it constantly. Honed my skills. I tested myself—sought out individuals known to be resistant to the technique. Hutts. Toydarians. You may not believe this, but I learned to sway even their strong minds."
- ―Grandea
Over years of practice, Grandea achieved mastery of the Jedi mind trick. She could read surface-level thoughts, though she could not rip information from one's mind, something she claimed was impossible. Grandea was able to identify a blade produced by a cracked kyber crystal at a glance and sensed the death of the powerful Jedi Luke Skywalker.[2]
Equipment[]
- "I destroyed my lightsaber, burned my Jedi robes. But I knew that might not be enough."
- ―Grandea
As a Jedi, Grandea wore Jedi robes and used a lightsaber powered by a green kyber crystal. Following the Emperor's purge, she destroyed her lightsaber and burned her robes. At that time, Grandea also adopted a cloak.[2]
