The desert landscape of the planet Jakku
- "Turns out it gets a lot hotter in the desert when the sun comes up."
- ―Poe Dameron
Deserts were planetary regions covered almost completely by sparse terrain that received little precipitation. They were dry, desolate, and often harsh regions.[2] On Tatooine, sandstorms proved dangerous to local populations,[3] and some citizens worked as moisture farmers to pump moisture from beneath the desert floor.[2] The planet Jakku also contained a desert.[4] Both Tatooine[2] and Jakku had golden tan sand.[4] Other examples of desert planets include Er'Kit[5] and Geonosis.[6] Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, who hailed from Tatooine, thought of the desert as a merciless expanse that took everything from those who wandered it.[7]
Behind the scenes[]
Deserts as whole were introduced in 1977 in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope as Tatooine. It is the not only the first time deserts appear, but also the first climate to appear as well. The scenes for Tatooine in a Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope were shot in Tunisia.
