- "The Department of Modifications and Redesign ensured the advancement of officials across the galaxy based upon their loyalty to Imperial ideals and the degree to which they were willing to promote it at the expense of personal ties."
- ―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
The Department of Modifications and Redesign was a department of the Coalition for Improvements, a part of the Galactic Empire's Commission for the Preservation of the New Order. Its role was to ensure the advancement of officials across the galaxy depending upon the individual's loyalty to the Empire and to what degree they were willing to promote it at the expense of their own personal ties.[1]
At various points throughout the Empire's reign, the department also relocated or forcibly deported populations or species from worlds that required re-purposing for Imperial use. Many of the orders for these relocations originated with the Coalition for Improvements. The department was briefly detailed by the historian Beaumont Kin in[1] his[2] book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[1] in 35 ABY.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
In the current Star Wars canon, the Department of Modification and Redesign was mentioned in the 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, which was written by Dr. Chris Kempshall.[1] It originated separately as the Department of Modification and Department of Redesign in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the Imperial Sourcebook, a 1989 supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game written by Greg Gorden and published by West End Games.[4]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire states that thirty years have passed since the end of the Galactic Civil War and months have passed since the Battle of Exegol. As Star Wars: Timelines dates the end of the war to 5 ABY and the Battle of Exegol to 35 ABY, the in-universe The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire must have been published in 35 ABY.
