- "I've never even met him before. I don't know why he's seeking vengeance."
- ―Qui-Gon Jinn about Corlis Rath
Corlis Rath was a male individual who lived during the late Republic Era and tried to assassinate Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.
Biography[]
Meeting Qui-Gon Jinn[]
Corlis Rath was a male individual, assumed to be from the world Sinsara, who lived during the late Republic Era. He was associated with a group known as The Banished.[1] At some point Rath had an encounter with a young Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Jedi Master Dooku, during which Jinn slashed a wound into Rath's chest with his lightsaber.[5]
Attempts to assassinate Qui-Gon Jinn[]
- "What is your quarrel with me? Why are you hunting me? I don't even know you, Corlis Rath. Oh yes, since last we fought, I've learned your name. What I haven't learned is why you want me dead. The first time I even met you was on Vekura. Why are you doing this? Why?!"
"Sinsara."
"What--? What did you say?" - ―Qui-Gon Jinn and Corlis Rath during their duel on Mina-Rau
Corlis Rath attacks Qui-Gon Jinn on Vekura
Decades later, between 40 BBY and 34 BBY[6] during the Invasion of Syrinx Prime, Rath attacked Jinn – now a Jedi Master – on the planet on Vekura. Jinn and fellow Jedi Knight Berem Khana were on their way to their shuttle to return to Syrinx Prime after they had unsuccessfully tried to negotiate a ceasefire with the Vekuran general Lafco. Rath jumped at Jinn and tried to stab him[2] with two energy-edged blades,[5] and when Khana tried to assist Jinn, Rath propelled him back against a tree with a small[2] concussive-based weapon[1] on his right upper arm. Eventually Jinn managed to Force push Rath against a boulder, but before Jinn could remove Rath's mask and question him, he activated a smoke grenade and fled.[2]
Back in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, Bhana showed Jinn a microdust transmitter sown into his robe that his attacker must have used to track him. Meanwhile Jinn's Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi got a Force vision of Rath killing Jinn[2] and, after investigation in the Jedi Archives, found out his identity and showed his master a hologram of Rath, who didn't recognize him.[3] Fellow Padawan Tensu Run began tracking Rath and together with Jinn, tried to meet with an informant named Aquint Garva on the moon K'shar, but found Garva to have already been murdered by Rath.[5] At some point later, Jinn was on a mission on the planet Nar Shaddaa together with fellow Jedi Master Shaak Ti, when he sensed the presence of Rath, who was surveilling them from atop the roof of a nearby building, but didn't make a move to attack them.[7]
To lure out Jinn, Rath poisoned and killed the Jedi Master Fondar Etzis with a fast acting toxin,[4] emubara,[8] on the agriworld of Mina-Rau. Arriving on Mina-Rau as part of an honor guard with fellow Master Mace Windu and Knight Aayla Secura, Jinn put together that Etzis had been murdered and sensed the assassin's approach when he finally revealed himself, whereas Windu and Secura were caught off guard and knocked out via darts. Rath dueled Jinn's lightsaber with his blades[4] in a challenging battle[8] and revealed his vendetta against the Jedi had something to do with Sinsara, something that shocked Jinn and gave Rath and opening to stab him through the chest.[4] Jinn was left poisoned but was saved from death by Windu and Secura, who made their way to Sinsara to recover the antidote.[8]
Personality and traits[]
Corlis Rath had light-colored skin[2] and yellow-colored eyes. He had a personal vendetta against Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn[4] and tried to kill him, but used only non-lethal weapons against other enemies.[2]
Skills and abilities[]
Rath was skilled in the use of dual blades, able to push Qui-Gon Jinn on the defensive during their fight.[2] During their duel on Mina-Rau, Rath showed extraordinary jumping abilities comparable to these of Force-sensitives.[4]
Equipment[]
Rath owned two two energy-edged blades,[5] as well as smoke grenades,[2] a concussive-based weapon,[1] and poison darts.[4] He wore mostly black clothing going up to his head, with red parts around his upper arms, and he concealed his face with a red metalic mask and a grey goggles.[2]
