Clone jetpack troopers or clone jet troopers were a variant of clone trooper trained for aerial combat, most commonly through the use of the JT-12 jetpack. Clone jetpack troopers were present during the First Battle of Geonosis as well as the Battle of Cato Neimoidia and Battle of Anaxes. The 501st Legion had jetpack troopers within its ranks, the armor of the troopers was marked in blue to designate their unit affiliation. Following the execution of Order 66, the transformation of the Republic into the Empire and the phasing out of clones in favor of stormtroopers, the jetpack troopers were replaced by jumptroopers.
Description[]
Amongst the most skilled soldiers in the galaxy,[7] clone jet troopers were clone troopers trained for aerial maneuvers and combat. They used jetpacks to scout ahead of clone units and deny enemies the tactical advantage of the high ground. Jet troopers were skilled in military tactics as well as armed and unarmed combat. They were also proficient in their survival skills as well as starfighter and starship piloting.[8]
History[]
Phase I jetpack trooper
At least one clone jetpack trooper participated in the First Battle of Geonosis, the first action of the Clone Wars, against the Separatist Droid Army.[1] Jet troopers from the 501st Legion took part in the Battle of Christophsis[9] and were present for the defense of Cato Neimoidia, during which a grouping of jetpack troopers traveled with Clone Captain Rex aboard a gunship.[3] The 327th Star Corps also featured clone jetpack troopers.[10]
Jetpack troopers from both the 501st and the 7th Sky Corps took part in the Battle of Anaxes.[2] 501st jump troopers were again present at the Battle of Yerbana to assist the 7th's 212th Attack Battalion.[6] During the last major Separatist offensive of the Clone Wars, the Battle of Coruscant, vacuum-suited jetpack troopers boarded enemy vessels to capture their bridges.[5] At the same time, 501st troopers equipped with jetpacks helped carry out the Siege of Mandalore alongside the Mandalore resistance.[6]
Equipment[]
Clone jetpack troopers commonly made use of the JT-12 jetpack.[11] They were armed with the BlasTech DC-15A blaster rifle, DC-15A blaster carbine,[6] and DC-17 hand blaster as well as the Smart Rocket missile launchers.[11] Clone jetpack troopers assigned to specific Grand Army of the Republic detachments often donned their armor with the color-scheme representative of that unit; for example, 501st jetpack troopers wore blue armor.[6]
