- "Activate the droids."
"Yes, sir." - ―Daultay Dofine and Tey How
A Central Control Computer[2]—also known as a master control computer, a droid control computer,[3] or simply a central computer[4]—was a computer designed to operate droid crews. It could be used to coordinate the usage of tactile computer systems and communications stations, or to provide tactical information and remote user control for a variety of purposes.[2]
History[]
- "For some time I've wanted to congratulate you for introducing autonomous thinking to the battle droids. Central control computers were certainly an outgrowth of the hierarchical structure of Neimoidian society. And we all saw what happened at the Battle of Naboo. The Separatist droid army has come a long way since, and I don't think the Geonosians are given enough credit for that."
- ―Lieutenant Commander Orson Krenic claims to wishes to congratulate the Geonosians to Poggle the Lesser
By 32 BBY,[6] Central Control Computers were utilized in Droid Control Ships operated by the Trade Federation. The Central Control Computer allowed remote Neimoidian operators to orchestrate an invasion of the planet Naboo with computer-automated commands. The destruction of the Droid Control Ship and Central Control Computer forced all B1-series battle droids involved in the invasion to enter a stand-by hibernation mode, proving the weaknesses of such a system.[1][2]
The central computer had been created as a cost-cutting measure,[2] but it also had its roots in the hierarchy of the Neimoidian species,[5] which controlled the Federation.[2] Later B1 battle droids did away with needing a command signal,[7] but battle droids could still be operated by a Central Command Computer[2] if an officer so chose.[8] Battle droids were given autonomous thinking by the Geonosians. During a conversation with Archduke Poggle the Lesser, Lieutenant Commander Orson Krennic claimed he had wanted to congratulate the introduction for some time.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
A battle droid central processor is featured in the audio drama Dooku: Jedi Lost, but it is not confirmed to be a Central Control Computer in specific. In the text, it is revealed the idea of creating a droid army was discussed in the Galactic Senate[9] before or during 42 BBY,[10] with Jedi Master Dooku in attendance. During the debate, it was raised that its battle droids would be controlled by a type of central processor. Dooku later used this knowledge to shut down the computer controlling Ramil's droid army.[9]
