weekend. Record breaking snow (for our area). There’s about 14” of the white
stuff on our driveway and we still haven’t removed enough of it to get a car
out. The frigid temps aren’t helping with the removal, either.

Some “kids” (they were in their
late teens/early twenties) offered to shovel it for 60 bucks. Hubby is wishing
now that he took them up on their offer. It’s not that it’s heavy (nope, fluffy
stuff fell this time around), but just that there is so much of it! I don’t
know where to put it all. Our piles are almost as tall as me (and I’m 5’6”) and
we’re nowhere near finished.

Thankfully we’re in no hurry to
get anywhere.

Here’s what I read since my last

Raine is two weeks from tapping out of his fifteen-year military career when
he’s offered an easy assignment that could net him half-a-million-dollars. All
he has to do is provide protection detail for K.M. O’Conner on a reality show.
Once the mission was complete, he would be financially set to fulfill a promise
he never forgot. When he meets the tantalizing and extremely talented
contestant, Wyatt can’t help but wonder if he has bitten off more than he can
chew.
Keller O’Connor’s dreams were about
to come true—she’d been selected to be on Hometown Advantage, a reality TV show
where contestants compete in physical and cooking challenges. Her chances of
winning are good—that is, if an escaped serial killer who’s hellbent on
eliminating her permanently doesn’t get to her first. She isn’t happy when the
show’s director assigns her a hard-as-nails Navy SEAL bodyguard/partner. Her
plans didn’t include splitting the million-dollar winnings, nor getting
unexpectedly married in Vegas. Of course, the idea of being chopped in
real-life by a killer focused on revenge wasn’t appetizing either.
As the chemistry heats up between
Keller and Wyatt, so do the threats. Can he keep her alive long enough to make
both of their dreams come true, or will a deadly killer exact his own brand of
sweet revenge in front of the world?
My thoughts: Very entertaining.
Kind of like reading about a contestant from the Amazing Race (which is the
only reality show I watch). I found it interesting that there is now a culinary
reality show coming soon to TV (forget which channel), which is what the
reality show in this book is portraying. Still, lots of action and suspense in
this, along with some ghosts and other paranormal stuff, made for a fun read.

I know what ice is like and I’m glad it didn’t happen here. Still, I wish the

gonna happen anytime soon. The highest it will get all week is 19 and that is
on Friday. We got several below zero mornings to get through first. Ugh.

nothing. It just feels that way. I’m currently on cruise 2 of 2 (which ends
this Saturday) and I’m not writing. I’m barely reading! I just don’t feel like
doing much of anything except chill out. I play Royal Match on my phone more
than anything (until I run out of lives and have to wait for them to
regenerate—I refuse to pay for any plays). I blame most of my doing nothing feeling
on the fact I feel like I royally messed up my current WIP. I was hoping to
talk to some writer friends for a little brainstorming help before we left, but
with the holidays, that just wasn’t possible. So… no writing. Only because I
don’t know how (or if) I should fix what I have.

It's frustrating when you realize
that maybe the plot of the book you’re writing isn’t working.

I could work on my vampire story
(that I started years ago), but even that has its problems.

I just need to talk to other
writers. I need help. And, unfortunately, Hubby can’t give it.

So I’m chilling. Trying to read a
little. Trying to work on my crochet project. But mostly playing that stupid
game.

I’m pathetic, aren’t I?

Well, at least the weather is
warmer than back home. Not warm. Low seventies is not exactly warm, but a heck
of a lot better than the thirties.

My thoughts: The latest movie came out and I vaguely remember the first one
coming out and then realizing it is a Stephen King/Richard Bachman story. I have
The Bachman Books (which is in a pretty bad shape) and recognized three of the
four stories. For some reason, I did NOT remember The Running Man. So I decided
to read it. Turns out I had NEVER read that particular story. Have no idea why,
either. The other stories are more disturbing than this one. Anyway, it was
kind of cool to see how Stephen King pictured 2025 way back in 1982. Some of it
was way off. Other stuff…not so much!

It’s foggy this morning and laundry day for me. Being
retired has its perks (like not having to wait until the weekend to wash
clothes!). But I do like my routines, so laundry day just moved from Sunday to
Friday.

got the tree up, but I didn’t put up the ornaments. I seem to do that every
other year (at least, according to my memories on Facebook).

My last CT Scan came back great. Still
no sign of disease. My oncologist is NOW saying that I may be able to go off
the immunotherapy. Apparently, people who have been on it for two years and
went off it still show no sign of cancer after two years. While I have been on
immunotherapy for three years, I had a reoccurrence of the disease in January
2024, so he’s waiting for that actual two years to pass before discussing the possibility. But he said that doctors are considering those people cured.
CURED! I’d sure like that to be me.

My thoughts: Took longer for me to read because I was being stupid. Or I
just wasn’t in the mood to read. That happens. But once I realized I wanted to
make 30 books (31, if I’m lucky) this year, I dove into the book. Then, the
book hooked me, which made it easy to finish. This is a good story. Sure, we
know what happens to Haymitch in the Hunger Games, but it was neat figuring out
what made him the drunk he was in book 1. It is sad. But how could it NOT be
sad?

I’ve decided to try and get 31 books read this year, so I’m
re-reading The Running Man (by Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman). I’ve
most likely read it a long time ago. It’s in a collection I have and I remember
the other three stories with no issues, but not The Running Man. Why that is, I
have no idea. I have 11 days to read it. Let’s see if I do it! In the meantime,

tree this year. Except I love the tree skirt I made for it last year. And I do
want to put up the dated ornaments I got this year. I just don’t want the work
in getting the tree into the living room. And then the work it takes to put all
the ornaments on it. And then the work to take it all down. Maybe it’s time to stop.
But then what do I do with all the dated ornaments? Do I keep buying them
hoping I get in the mood to put up the tree in future years? I’ve been getting
dated ornaments since our first Christmas as a married couple, in 1979. And we
also have dated Steelers ornaments since 2003 (I think). I’m sure I will put up
the tree. It’ll just be a slooooow process.

But I really wouldn’t mind NOT
putting up the tree, too. I’ll keep you posted on what I end up doing.

My thoughts: It had been a while since I read book 2, so it took me a while
to remember some of the characters. This is an enjoyable series with good
suspense and light romance (nothing too detailed). I do recommend you read them
in order because of Laurel’s and Huck’s relationship with each other. Oh, and
Laurel’s and Abigail’s relationship too. In fact, I had forgotten about Abigail
until she showed up. Which really makes me question my memory, because Abigail
is pretty unforgettable. Oh well…

Our excursion there? Eh. It certainly wasn’t worth the money. But we got to
walk around and did see some places we hadn’t been to before. But when we stopped
to shop (which seemed to be why we stopped most of the time—not for the
sights), a lot of places said “Cashless.” Well… they lost my business right
then and there (and I might have bought some of that chocolate from the
chocolate factory). I will not give my credit card to a business I do not know.
Especially in a foreign country. Nope.

Anyway, we made it home yesterday.
Luckily, we had NO flight delays. Everything went pretty smoothly. Kind of
shocked, really. I don’t remember the last time I flew without something going
wrong!

My thoughts: Can’t say it was much of a thriller, but more of a
crime-drama. I didn’t realize that it was a British book until I started
reading it (the quote marks my first clue). A lot of characters are in this and
it was a bit confusing for me to keep them all straight (and for the record, this story is NOT just about those two detectives listed in the blurb--Hazel hardly shows up in it). I didn’t particularly
care for this book. Not for the subject matter (although that might bother
some), but in the way it was written. Lots of head-hopping. Maybe it’s a good
thing B&N doesn’t give freebies to members anymore. I don’t recall finding
one I liked yet.

I was beginning to wonder if I would reach my reading goal
of 30 this year, but I only have two books to go, so maybe I worried for
nothing. I’m just making sure I’m reading books by authors I already love. That
will speed things up, I’m sure!

of Portugal) was short, but nice. The island is gorgeous! We took an excursion
to see the crater lake. So pretty! Now we’re on day 4 of our 6 sea days. I’m
not minding it so bad. It can be nice to be lazy. Of course, I had plans to
walk, but the weather has been horrible until today. Will I go walking
tomorrow? I don’t know. I’ve gotten lazy again! But at least it’s warmer out
now. It was pretty chilly getting to Ponta Delgada and a couple of days from
there. Overcast, rainy, and super windy (some winds were over 50 mph!). On
Thursday we visit Nassau. Been there lots of times, but we managed to find an
interesting excursion.

I still have my cold, but at least
it’s not as severe. It always takes me weeks to get rid of the cough, though.

really nice. We had a lot of fun on that excursion (and got more Greek food to
sample). Our stop in Naples included an excursion to the Amalfi Coast and
Pompei. We were a little disappointed in both. Frankly, we were glad our stop
at both places weren’t lengthy. I guess I just expected more color on the coast
and after seeing so many ruins, Pompei was just another site of…ruins. The
story is sad, but that’s about it.

We docked back in Civitavecchia
(Rome) and stayed on the ship. Our first stop on the second cruise was in
Cartegena, Spain. That was a nice city and we sampled lots of tapas (our
excursion was called the Tapas Trail). Walked around the city to three
different eateries and ended at the Roman Theatre. Another ruin that wasn’t
discovered until the 1990s! It was found quite by accident.

But man, the first cruise really
spoiled us. Water was calm. No issues. We left Civitavecchia and the waves
picked up. I did not feel well on that first sea day. And then I went and caught
a cold. Tomorrow we stop at Ponta Delgada (the Azores of Portugal) and then it
will be six sea days in a row. I sure hope the water calms down. I haven’t been
able to do much writing. Or reading for that matter. Not that the cold helped
any. Why do they always have to come with a headache?

With the help of his sharp-witted

But who is the culprit? And can
Jeremy unravel the truth before anyone else gets hurt? Or will this local

My thoughts: I used to get free books from Barnes & Noble for being a
member (I say used to because I haven’t been offered a free book for a while
now). This looked fun. Instead, I got boring. The cats aren’t in it much and
have absolutely nothing to do with solving any mystery. There really wasn’t
much sleuthing done, either. I’m not a big mystery reader, but enough of one to
say this ain’t one.

It's been chilly for the past few days, but at least I can say
we didn’t get any snow, unlike my home did. Yeah, my daughter is cursing us out
for that. When we first started cruising, it always snowed when we were gone.
Guess we had to keep with tradition, huh?

Turkiye (I remembered the correct spelling this time!). So much walking. And
that is a big city. I was overwhelmed and it was a long day (9 hours) that I
just wanted to go back to the ship. Saw some interesting stuff, but frankly, it’s
mostly a big city and I’m so not into those. Then we visited Athens yesterday (another
big city), but we were mostly at archeological sites. While the Acropolis is in
Athens, Sounion (Poseidon’s site) was out in the country, which was really
pretty. But it was another 9-hour excursion. Today we were in Crete and saw another archeological site that was so
old (1900-1700 BC), that most of what was there was reconstruction (or as one
person called it: fake). There were some authentic portions, though. Afterward,
we drove 70 minutes to a small town to shop and had lunch. Then drove 70
minutes back to the ship. Another long day (8-1/2 hours), but mostly in a bus. Tomorrow we arrive in
Olympia. The excursion there is only 4 hours long. Whew!

I’m kind of getting Greeced-out!
At least the weather has still cooperated. In fact, it was rather warm today.

My thoughts: The blurb sounded so good, I bought it for the trip (it had
been in my wish list for a while now). Unfortunately, the story dragged on for
me. There was one POV I felt wasn’t needed which is probably why it dragged on…for
me. This was book 1 of a 4-book series. I will not be reading the rest. I
couldn’t get invested in the characters so I can only assume the same will
happen with the other books. Now, lots of people do like these books, so it’s
possibly just me, which is why I gave it a “Maybe” on the recommend.

So, we just finished Day 6 of this 14-day cruise. We’ve been

Asia, so I can now add that continent to my list! Whoo hoo!

do much writing. Or reading. What am I saying? I didn’t do ANY writing, but I
did a little bit of reading. Why? I was enjoying our road trip through National
Parks and enjoying the scenery of our country (since we were mostly on
non-interstate roads). Well… until the parks were shut down on Oct 1. Then we took
a detour through Monument Valley and Four Corners (a first for both of us), since
they were owned by the Navajo and not the National Parks, and then just drove
home. Cut our trip a day short. Guess that just means we have to do it again.
When? I have no idea. Our days seem to fill up with trips fast! In fact, we had
to block out the dates in 2027 for our trip to Glacier National Park so we
wouldn’t book something else in its place.

Yeah, I need a 2027 calendar now.

doing so well. Ghostly Protector did better last year, but not by much.
Making me wonder why I publish my books at all. But I continue writing, except…

I am at a crossroad in The
Alien’s Change of Heart. I knew what I wanted to do with a certain
character at the beginning of writing it, but now I don’t know if it’s the
right choice or not.

This is why I don’t plot. I can’t
even stick with what I have in my mind. Imagine if it were on paper??

I know I could just write it one
way and see if that works. If it doesn’t, try writing it the other way. Right?
But my mind is still thinking about which way to go first.

I need to tell it to shut up and
just start writing. And I need to stop making other excuses, too. I now have a
deadline to finish this book. Although, I’m beginning to doubt it’s reachable.

I will be in Columbia, SC on March
28th for a book signing. No other details are known at this time.
Just the city and date. It would be so nice if The Alien’s Change of Heart were
available then. But that means I need to finish the book NOW.

Nothing like adding stress to the
mix, huh? Especially when Alien Desires tanked. I will certainly not end
book 2 with any kind of unresolved issues, just in case it’s the last of that
series.

Which is sad. I had such high
hopes… Might have helped if I marketed it better, but when your newsletter subscribers
don’t even purchase it, makes me wonder if that would have helped.

Oh well… At least I’m still
writing. Sort of. Hahahahaha.

My thoughts: What a fun book! I loved it. Not at all heavy on the sci-fi.
If you’ve ever watched “Star Trek” (especially the original series), you will
get this. Sort of like how Galaxy Quest riffed on the series. Almost. It’s
funny and totally whacky!

Just an FYI about Alien Desires. Yes, it’s listed as
sci-fi romance. Or alien romance (if that genre is available at the vendor).
But it’s as much sci-fi as “Mork & Mindy” (or even “My Favorite Martian”)
was sci-fi. I just don’t know how to market that. Any suggestions would be
highly appreciated.

One
of the best I’ve attended (been going since 2010). I think because the weather
was soooooo much cooler than other years, it made a huge difference. People didn’t
congregate in the air-conditioned areas. They would venture outside more! Plus,
I think there were soooooo many awesome guests (of which their panels were
against each other, because of course they do that), that the lines weren’t too
long a half-hour before the panel that you could still get inside. I really
enjoyed seeing the guests from “Evil,” “Bones,” “Back to the Future,” “Agents
of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Star Trek Voyager,” Star Trek TNG,” and the Arrowverse (John
Barrowman!!). Next year is Dragon Con’s 40th event and I’m kind of
sad that I won’t be going. We have a 28-day cruise out of San Francisco, which
we’ll fly to on 9/9. If we went to Dragon Con, we wouldn’t get back until 9/8.
That just isn’t enough time to get ready.

My thoughts: I enjoyed this story. I had asked the author if she had any
male-male romances (because I was looking for a book for my daughter) and she
indicated this one was the closest she had. Not that it’s a romance (far from
it) or much of a male-male story (there is attraction there, but that’s about
it). Still, it was a fun read. Yes, I had to read it first because the story
looked fun. And it was. Now, I’ll give it to my daughter. She thought the story
looked fun, too. Hopefully, she won’t be disappointed.

I mentioned a few posts ago that Ghostly Protector
was a finalist in a contest I entered it in. I got word that it did not win. Oh
well. It’s not like I have been a finalist all that much (once before), so that
was great. I can only hope that those who had to read the book liked it enough
to want to read the others.

Georgia on Tuesday. Only to come back to hot and sticky Ohio. I’m beginning to
think it’s hot and sticky EVERYWHERE!

I did okay at the convention.
Better than last year. Thought I might sell more of Alien Desires than I
did, but a lot of people seemed interested, so hopefully they’ll get the ebook
later. After they’ve read the dozens of books they purchased from the other
authors (the readers that attend are HUNGRY for books, I swear!!).

This was the last year of Literary
Love Savannah. For at least four years. So the ending was a little bittersweet.
I do enjoy this convention and seeing the readers and other authors. But it can
be expensive, too, so the break will probably be good for my pocketbook. If I’m
smart (and I rarely am), I’ll have LOTS of new books to sell if the convention
comes back.

My thoughts: It had been several years since I read the first book in the
series. And there are only two. At least nothing was left hanging, so that’s
good. I ran into some irritating grammatical errors, which made me downgrade my
rating a bit. If this was an indie book, I probably would have forgiven them,
but not from Entangled (the publisher). So yes, I guess I rate the publisher,
too. But the story was enjoyable and if not for the book convention, probably
would have finished it long before now.

After the book convention (in
Savannah), Hubby and I went to Cumberland Island (National Park near the
Florida border). I had never heard of the place, but Hubby is trying to visit
all the National Parks, so I’m learning a lot about them now. The only reason I
agreed to go to this island is because they had a van (which luckily had air
conditioning) to take us up and down the island (it’s about 17 miles long). No
way was I going to walk on the trails there. I didn’t realize the island had
wild horses. All they do is graze (because the park doesn’t do anything to feed
them), but they are wild (feral) and we were warned numerous times to not get near
them. It was a long day on the island, but very interesting. If you ever get a
chance to visit it, I recommend it.

You
can now acquire Alien Desires in digital and print. I have been really
bad in getting the word out. I just don’t seem to be motivated to do much
lately, which is not good, especially now. I wish I knew what causes these mood
swings. I’d like to blame the weather, but it’s probably one of my medications,
most likely the hormone therapy one I take to keep the breast cancer away. I really
hate taking pills, but I do it because they seem to be working. At least I only
have three more years of this particular pill.

We did have some rain to contend with (and got wet in the process during one National

I worried. I hate those things!

My thoughts: I love Stephen King. I’ve read just about everything he’s
written. I loved Holly’s story in this one and found “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” and
“Rat” interesting. But “The Life of Chuck”? Hmmm… I found out while reading that
short that it was released as a move. Last Friday! I don’t get it. The story OR
why it was turned into a movie. Someone will have to tell me what I missed.

But not for
long. Hubby and I leave again on Saturday for a mini trip to Chattanooga, TN.
He’s always wanted to visit the city and there are some National Parks around
(and on the way), so we actually found some time where we were free and are
taking advantage.

Never a dull moment for us, huh?

On our drive back from Baltimore,
we stopped at three National Parks (Flight 93, Johnstown Flood, and Allegany
Railroad). But it was raining so bad at times, we weren’t able to enjoy them
like we wanted (he got the stamps in his book, though), so we’ll probably
revisit them someday. But man, when I say it was raining… Let’s just say that after
our last stop we headed home and got an alert on our phones that we were
driving in a Tornado WARNING area. Yikes! Luckily, we avoided that and made it
home safely.

about. Not a lot about the murder mystery. Halloween Murder is a compilation of
two Lucy Stone stories. I’m not bothering to read the second one. Just not what
I enjoy reading. But, if you like what they call cozy mysteries, you might have
a better time with it.

So… the weather has finally been great for walking. I wasn’t

My thoughts: A real quick read for me. Kind of needed one after the monster
books I have been reading lately. Gotta get my reading stats up! I enjoyed this
book (I like most of her books, what can I say?), even though the romance was a
bit on the thin side. But she did say this was more suspense than romance and
kind of bridge between her two genres (she writes mostly suspense thrillers
now). If you’re looking for a quick suspense, give this one a try.

Weather in both Canadian stops (Corner Brook & Sydney)
was EXCELLENT! Kind of worried as we kept sailing through fog everywhere. Now we’re
back on the Atlantic Ocean in overcast weather. I hear it’s been warm on the
east coast. Right now, I kind of have my doubts.

The
second of this year and not the last, either. This one took us to Greenland. We
almost thought it might not happen. Ice was in the way (and growing!) of the
two ports we had planned to stop at. But the people of Carnival found a
solution: two nights in Nuuk instead. The weather was cold (in the 30s), but
the views were awesome. I’m so glad we were able to visit this unique island.

I did have high hopes to write and
exercise on this cruise. Boy, were they dashed quickly. Besides forgetting to
pack some of my blood pressure meds (ooops), I had vertigo for a good portion
of this cruise, and then caught someone’s crud. The cold temps didn’t help any,
either. So no walking (at least, not yet…the cruise isn’t over and we will be
back in warmer temps soon, I hope) and the writing has been spotty. But I do
have the laptop out today and hope to get back to The Alien’s Change of Heart.

enjoyed revisiting these characters, who I fell in love with when I started

more than that. It’s an emotional roller coaster, too. A very fitting end for a
wonderful series.

She’s on the run—leaving behind her
unsupportive, narcissistic ex-boyfriend and alcoholic, abusive mother—and
headed for a new beginning at Tranquil Falls, a secluded artists’ colony on the
grounds of a closed hotel. There, with no cell signal or internet to distract
her, she hopes to rediscover her love for pottery and put the broken pieces of
her life back together.
But when Sarah uncovers the body of a
young woman while digging a hole for a pit kiln, things start to fall apart.
Her fellow artists begin to act in troubling ways. The eccentric fiber artist
knits an endless scarf. The musician plays the same carousel song over and over
until his fingers bleed. The calligrapher grins with ink-stained teeth. Not to
mention the haunting dreams Sarah has night after night.
When she discovers glass shards in
her clay, Sarah wonders if someone is out to get her—or if she’s losing her
grip on reality out here in the wilds, where the pounding of the waterfall
never, ever fades. As she investigates the beautiful valley and the crumbling
resort looming over them all, she unearths a chilling past that refuses to
remain buried...
Recommend: Yes
My thoughts: Interesting horror story. Even has a haunted/abandoned hotel that was creepy.
But I felt some things were not exactly wrapped up, especially since it seemed
to be written in an omniscient POV. But we are only with Sarah the whole story,
so…maybe not.

I kind of thought I might get some writing done on this
trip, but I’m beginning to think not. But I am getting some reading and crocheting
done. Oh, and walking. Can’t forget the walking!

Happy Reading!

Indianapolis area yesterday. Sold 7 books. Not enough to break even, but better
than I expected. And a lot of people seemed interested in Alien Desires
(which I only had a postcard for). Hopefully I get some preorders. A lot of
people were also interested in my other series, and I get the feeling they
might buy the e-books later. Fingers crossed!

Overall, I would attend this event
again, but alas, next year (Aug 8, 2026) I’ll be on a cruise. I know, you feel
really sorry for me, huh? Haha!

My thoughts: There were actual times I did NOT want to put the book down,
but had to. Talk about frustrating. But now I’m wondering where #31 is. It’s
been almost two years. She usually has the new one in hard cover by the time
the latest is in paperback, but I don’t see anything. I won’t panic. Yet.

FYI: Registration for Literary Love Savannah (July 9-13)
ends May 1st, so if you’re looking to attend, don’t wait too long. This
is the last LLS for a while. Which is sad, but highly understandable. Just
comment that you’re interested and I’ll send you the details (or just go to
their FB group https://www.facebook.com/groups/283444507738356).
I really like this convention (and it is a convention, not just a book signing).
I have a lot of fun with the readers.
