We get automated xlsx exports from a PaaS, in the past 2 months the exports they provide no longer fully load in Google Sheets when fields with the following characters exists (could be more but these are the ones we are aware of) , > |

When it is data without these fields it is no issue and when these fields exist and certain number of rows will be loaded then the rest are ignored. Google sheets does not time out trying to load either, it is almost like it thinks it is finished the entire sheet.

The PaaS have told me that their exports are open xml compliant and that they do not experience the same issue when loading them onto Google Sheets.

I will share an example on this post, I am just wondering if anyone has had experience with a similar issue or might know a possible fix?

It is worth noting that if I open the exports in excel they load without issue, then if I save them from excel without any alterations they will load in Google Sheets with no issue but we want to load them using automation so this isn't really an ideal fix for the problem.

Thanks

Tried asking the PaaS if anything had changed, they assure us it has not and that it is working on their end and that the xlsx files are open xml compliant.

Loaded the sheet successfully in Excel with no issue, then saved without alteration and the import worked without issue. (want a solution for use with automation)

When not using those characters the data loads without issue.

Data with rows under 20000 seem to work depending on volume of other data.

  • For the technically ignorant among us (possibly limited to me alone), "PaaS", according to Google Cloud, means "Platform as a Service [is] a complete cloud environment that includes everything developers need to build, run, and manage applications—from servers and operating systems to all the networking, storage, middleware, tools, and more."
