I am trying to read the output of an encoder using CubeIDE. I have a DC motor with a magnetic encoder attached. When the encoders are measured using a multi-meter the outputs are ranging between 0 to 5V when rotating. But when connected to the Nucleo through a timer's encoder mode, the output is printing as 0. I have tried multiple timers and have verified the connection.

This is my current set up. What is wrong with my code/set up?

I have tried multiple different connections, timers and approaches to finding the encoder value. I am wanting to read an accurate encoder value.

If the encoder timer count stays at 0 and you're sure there is a signal going to the correct pin it seems like the timer configuration is the problem. Try moving HAL_TIM_Encoder_Start() to after MX_TIM3_Init in the main function. Does that fix it? Commented Jul 29, 2024 at 13:51
  • try this htim3.Init.Prescaler = 0; to htim3.Init.Prescaler = 1; it might help Commented Aug 3, 2024 at 6:28
