About

Hi there! My name is Sophie Overett and I am a writer, reader, editor, cultural producer and teacher from Brisbane, Australia.

I’ve been writing pretty much as long as I can remember, and my fiction and non-fiction has appeared in journals, websites and collections around the world since 2010 (a full list of which can be found here). To say my writing runs pretty wild across genres is an understatement – I’ve been known to write high fantasy and rambling literary fiction, loud YA and the occasional quiet memoir. Most of my stories explore themes of womanhood and sisterhood, our interior selves, created families and, more often than not, cases of very mild or useless superpowers.

Over the last five years, I’ve also worked for a variety of non-profit arts organisations celebrating literature and popular culture, particularly with Queensland Writers Centre and National Young Writers Festival. I’ve also worked on the ground for GenreCon, Australia’s premier genre writing conference, The Australian Writer’s Marketplace, Lip Magazine, Pan Macmillan’s digital imprint, Momentum, and more.

I am also the sole rambler of The Oscars Project, a lifelong personal mission of watching every film ever nominated for an Academy Award, and the co-rambler at Lady Parts, a podcast exploring the roles of women in front of and behind the camera in genre cinema.
